rdfs:comment | - Image:Swooper.gif Swooper is a bat creature that hides in dark places, hanging from the ceiling. They attack by swooping down and suck HP from Mario and his partner (although in the original Paper Mario, they only swoop down and hit him). The only way to get a Swooper from the ceiling is to use a quake attack, use a partner that can fight enemies at high altitude (like Parakarry or Madame Flurrie), or use the throwing hammer badge. Sir Swoop is this type of enemy, although he doesn't appear in enemy battles. In Super Paper Mario they're only found in Gloam Valley and Merlee's basement.
- Swooper is a dual Dark/Flying-type Pokémon created by Ryushusupercat for Pokémon Solstice and Equinox. It evolves into Swoopula starting at level 18.
(TAS: "The Infinite Vulcan")

- Swoopers were approximately fifteen feet long and like most life on Phylos were actually a type of plant. They were capable of flight and had root-like appendages which could be used as limbs. (ST reference: The Worlds of the Federation; TAS episode: "The Infinite Vulcan") At one point in December of 2267, while Helen Latham was yelling at him, Daniel Latham claimed that her shriek was not unlike that of the Phylosian swooper. (TOS novel: The Case of the Colonist's Corpse)
- In 2269, the crew of the USS Enterprise encountered the creatures, and one of them captured Spock with its root-tentacles and carried him away to be cloned by Stavos Keniclius 5. (TAS: "The Infinite Vulcan")

(TOS novel: The Case of the Colonist's Corpse) Curiously, with the exception of Stavos Keniclius, Phylos was supposedly unknown until the USS Enterprise arrived in 2269. (TAS episode: "The Infinite Vulcan")
(TAS: "The Infinite Vulcan")
- In 2269, the crew of the USS Enterprise encountered the creatures, and one of them captured Spock with its root-tentacles and carried him away to be cloned by Stavos Keniclius 5. (TAS: "The Infinite Vulcan") In the script for "The Infinite Vulcan", the typical design of the Swoopers is initially described thus; "It is fifteen feet long with a hinged, segmented body that permits the front end to turn right angles to the back end. It uses this maneuver to change directions in mid-air. The propulsion system is a series of coils that normally encircle the body, but which flatten out behind when it wishes to go forward – like a swimmer with a frog kick. It is this 'flattening out' that is responsible for the flapping sound. The coils serve another purpose as well; they can be used against an enemy to grasp, seize and render inoperable." The animations for this creature were slightly modified for a Maravel dragon-like creature and the mechanical sentinel. This one had the root-like appendages. Although wings are clearly visible in the Swooper's animated design, the novelization of "The Infinite Vulcan" (as published in Star Trek Log 2) specifically states that the creature had no wings, only the thick coils protruding from its body. The same adaptation also characterizes the Swooper as being "a good twelve feet long."
