  • The Portal is the entry point for any creatures "enabled" by a map and in the Creature Pool. It is a 3x3 room. Typically, undead constructs like Skeletons, Ghosts, and Vampires have to be home-grown, but there are a few maps that allow them to emerge through the portal.

Typically, it was used selectively by venerable Elders of Tenctonese society who held a monopoly on the device and used it to for their own personal journeys. When properly used, the Portal provided a glorious mind expanding experience though seekers needed to be carefully schooled first as there were dangerous elements involved in using the device. Those seeking a quick path towards enlightenment by improper handling of the device faced great danger. This was due to the subconscious impact on the Portal's effects that allowed each user to bring their own angels or demons to their experience. Thus, fear and desire were considered dangerous elements that impacted a user's journey in the Portal. This was why guidance in its usage was essential as the mental stability of each user was critical. This relic arrived on the planet Earth when the Tenctonese crashed on that world. This artifact was kept contained in a Tenctonese shrine and cared for the by elders tending to the site. However, a fire was started at the site and it was believed the Portal was lost. In reality, the device was actually stolen and used by an underground cult who began offering it to select disciples. These improperly trained imbalanced individuals began returning into society where they attempted to kill their demons thus creating societal disruption as well as attracting the attention of the police.   • A portal is a magical gateway, allowing instantaneous travel between any two. Travel can only be accomplished in one direction at a time. Portals are linked to each other in a "network" around Elara. A portal is composed of a framework of some sort (two sides, a connecting top, and a surface for it to stand on), either natural (ie. a cave entrance, or hole) or constructed. Portals can be made of any materials, and can be any size. The frame can be as "flimsy" and temporary as a few sticks lashed together to create a frame, or as permanent as a carved or mortared stone arch, such as the Calondon Arches in Kaan-dor-vel. Once the frame is constructed, a magic spell is placed on the frame, connecting it to the portal network. Once all this is accomplished, the portal (once activated) can send people, animals, or things across any distance instantaneously to another portal in the network. If the portal is destroyed, or damaged enough that the "circle" of frame and surface is "broken" or incomplete, that portal ceases to be part of the network, and the magical spell placed on it is broken. If the portal is repaired or rebuilt, another spell can be placed on it, and connect it to the network again. Some portals, like two of the Calondon Arches (the Tellana Arches), can be made permanently active, but they can only have one destination as long as they are active.
