An electronics expert on the brink of poverty, Scott Lang turned to crime to support his family. A poor criminal, Lang is arrested during a botched robbery and sent to prison. Studying electronics in his free time, Lang earns himself a job offer from Stark International after being paroled early for good behavior. Resuming his work in the field of electronics, Lang's life appears to be on the upswing until his daughter, Cassie, is diagnosed with a congenital heart condition. The only person capable of curing her condition was Dr. Erica Sondheim, but she was being held prisoner at Cross Technological Enterprises (CTE). Desperate, Lang breaks into Hank Pym's home and steals some of Ant-Man's equipment so he can confront the villain Darren Cross, the owner of CTE. Engaging the villain as "Ant-Man", Lang successfully uses his new powers to defeat Cross and rescue Dr. Sondheim. Prepared to return to prison for theft, Lang is shocked when Hank Pym allows him to keep the stolen Ant-Man equipment. Recognizing Lang's true nature, Pym's only condition was that Scott must use the Ant-Man persona to uphold the law. Relieved, Scott receives more good news from Dr. Sondheim: Cassie's heart condition was successfully cured. The third Ant-Man, Eric O'Grady was created by Robert Kurkman and Phil Hester. He first appeared in 'The Irredeemable Ant-Man #1 (September, 2006). Introduced as a low-level S.H.I.E.L.D. agent assigned to the Helicarrier, Eric O'Grady was the kind of guy who'd lie, cheat, and steal his way through life. Fortune struck one day when O'Grady and his best friend, Chris McCarthy, are put on guard duty outside Dr. Hank Pym's lab after Wolverine's dead body is brought aboard. Brainwashed by HYDRA, Wolverine is revived and starts killing everyone in sight. Panicking, O'Grady knocks Dr. Pym unconscious when the alarms start blaring. Messing around with the prototype Ant-Man suit in Hank's lab, Chris becomes trapped at insect size, causing O'Grady to panic again as HYDRA launches a full-scale attack on the helicarrier. Lost in the Helicarrier, Chris returns to full size only to be shot in the head. Looking for a place to hide, O'Grady stumbles across Chris's dead body and steals the Ant-Man suit. The Helicarrier sustains heavy damage during the attack, eventually crash landing in Arkansas. Surviving the crash, O'Grady retains his job as S.H.I.E.L.D agent during the day while experimenting with the Ant-Man suit at night.

Nachdem er den Anzug anprobiert, schrumpft Scott auf die Größe eines Insekts. Erschreckt durch die Erfahrung, gibt den Anzug wieder ab, wird aber auf dem Weg nach draußen verhaftet. Pym, der Hausbesitzer, besucht Scott im Gefängnis und schmuggelt den Anzug in seine Zelle, damit Scott ausbrechen kann. Pym möchte, dass Scott der neue Ant-Man wird, um die Yellowjacket von Cross zu stehlen. Nachdem sie die wahren Absichten von Cross erkannt hat, hilft Hope ihrem Vater, Scott zu trainieren und jegliche Ameisen zu kontrollieren. Dabei enthüllt Pym seiner Tochter, dass ihre Mutter Janet, die als “Wasp” bekannt war, in einem subatomaren Quantenreich verschwunden, während sie eine sowjetische Atomrakete deaktivieren wollte. Pym warnt Scott, dass er ein ähnliches Schicksal erleiden könnte, wenn er den Regler seines Anzuges außer Kraft setzt. Sie schicken in die Avengers-Zentrale, um ein Gerät zu stehlen, dass ihnen bei dem Diebstahl helfen soll, wo er kurz gegen Sam Wilson kämpft. Cross vervollkommnet die Yellowjacket und gibt eine eine Präsentation in der Pym Technologies-Zentrale. Scott infiltriert zusammen mit seiner Crew und einem Schwarm von fliegenden Ameisen das Gebäude, sabotiert die Veranstaltung, bringt Sprengstoff an den Servers des Unternehmens an. Als er versucht, die Yellowjacket zu stehlen, wird er zusammen mit Pym und Hope durch Cross gefangen genommen, der die Yellowjacket und den Ant-Man Anzug an Hydra verkaufen möchte. Scott kann ausbrechen und Hope die meisten der Hydra-Agenten ausschalten, während Pym angeschossen wird und Cross flieht. Scott verfolgt Scott, während der Sprengstoff das Gebäude detoniet, als Pym und Hope das Gebäude verlassen. Cross hat die Yellowjacket angezogen und greift Scott an. Kurz darauf wird Scott von Paxton verhaftet. Währenddessen nimmt Cross Cassie als Geisel, um Scott Lang in einen weiteren Kampf zu locken. Lang überschreibt die Regler und schrumpft auf subatomare Größe, um in Cross' Anzug einzudringen und zu sabotieren. Sie schrumpfen dabei unkontrollierbar, Cross kann dabei aber getötet werden. Scott verschwindet im Quantenreich, kann die Effekte aber umkehren und landet wieder in der normalen Welt. In Dankbarkeit für Scotts Heldentum deckt Paxton ihn vor dem Gefängnis. Pym fragt sich währenddessen, ob seine Frau noch am Leben ist. Später trifft sich Scott mit Luis, der ihm sagt, dass Wilson ihn sucht. In einer Szene im Abspann zeigt Pym seiner Tochter einen neuen Prototyp für einen Anzug für “The Wasp” und bietet ihn ihr an.

Pre-production began in October 2013 after being put on hold so that Wright could complete The World's End. Casting began in December 2013, with the hiring of Rudd to play Lang. In May 2014, Wright left the project, citing creative differences, though he still received screenplay and story credits with Cornish, as well as an executive producer credit. The following month, Reed was brought in as Wright's replacement, while McKay was hired to contribute to the script with Rudd. Principal photography took place between August and December 2014 in San Francisco and Metro Atlanta. Ant-Man held its world premiere in Los Angeles on June 29, 2015, and was released in North America on July 17, 2015, in 3D and IMAX 3D. Upon its release, the film received mixed reviews but has grossed more than $493 million worldwide. A sequel, titled Ant-Man and the Wasp, is scheduled to be released on July 6, 2018.
