On September 17, 1992 she wrote an article titled "Mystery Commandoes [sic] Steal Advanced Space Ship" describing an interview with Lin Haur and Chao Jyalin of the Jiuquan Satellite Base, following the theft of a DY-100 spaceship. (ST reference: Federation: The First 150 Years) This appears to be a reference to the character Sarah Jane Smith from the Doctor Who franchise.

- Sarah Jean Smythe was played by the awesome Liz Sladen and is the best-known classic companion even though Adric is clearly better. She appeared in both Classic and NuWho and everyone loves her, my Sarah Jane.

On TV and in spin-off media, Sarah Jane met nine of the Doctor's incarnations in total: those already mentioned and the First, Second, Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh.
- With the exception of K9, a robot dog gifted to her by the Doctor, Sarah Jane spent most of her life alone after traveling with him, but maintained previous friendships with UNIT staff; her connections to the Doctor and the Brigadier afforded her enough pull with the group to call them in to mop up messes after a threat was averted.

She travelled with the Doctor in his third and fourth incarnations. She later reunited with him in his tenth incarnation and had adventures with him and his immediate successor, the Eleventh. On TV and in spin-off media, Sarah Jane met nine of the Doctor's incarnations in total: those already mentioned and the First, Second, Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh. Her time with the Doctor ended after he had to go to Galifrey and at the time humans weren't allowed on the planet so the Doctor was forced to leave Sarah Jane on Earth but when doing so, he accidentally left her in Aberdeen instead of Croydon. Sometime later the Doctor gifted her with a robotic dog named K-9 Mark III, with whom she shared a number of adventures (many unchronicled). K-9 III was later destroyed, but the Doctor subsequently gave her K-9 Mark IV as a replacement. After an encounter with the Tenth Doctor, which reinvigorated her after many years of malaise, she began re-engaging in her own efforts to help protect earth from hostile extraterrestrials and helping peaceful aliens. Based out of a home on Bannerman Road, London, and aided by a group of young companions that included her adoptive children alien boy (Luke) and girl (Sky) she adopted, as well as a sentient computer named Mr. Smith, she engaged in a number of adventures. One adventure was shared with Jo Jones (nee Grant), herself once a companion of the Third Doctor. These adventures were chronicled in the spin-off series The Sarah Jane Adventures, plus several crossover appearances on Doctor Who. Production of Sarah Jane Adventures ended in 2011 following the death of actress Elisabeth Sladen, who portrayed Sarah Jane.

In her later life, Sarah Jane continued to repel any alien threats, while assisting more friendly ones. She eventually created a Xylok-based computer named Mr. Smith to assist her by providing intel. These adventures lead her to take on her very own companions, forming a surrogate family; this group consisted of her adopted children of alien origins Luke and Sky, and her young neighbors, Maria, Clyde and Rani. Each had skills that helped Sarah in her adventures.
