rdfs:comment | - The Second Doctor, Ben Jackson and Polly visited Charon at some point in its history. (PROSE: Pluto) In the mid 22nd century, the Earth government funded a research facility at the Charon colony to find useful applications for stunnel technology. On 7 May 2157, the Daleks destroyed the surface of Charon. The scientists based there escaped to Mars with the aid of Chris Cwej. By the 30th century, 800 years later, Charon was still highly radioactive. (PROSE: GodEngine)
- Charon, discovered in 1978 at the United States Naval Observatory Flagstaff Station, is the largest satellite of the dwarf planet Pluto. Following the 2005 discovery of two other natural satellites of Pluto (Nix and Hydra), Charon may also be referred to as Pluto I. The New Horizons mission is scheduled to visit Charon and Pluto in July 2015. Charon should not be confused with the similarly named Chiron, a smaller object in the outer solar system.
- The New Horizons spacecraft, to date the only probe to have visited the Pluto system, approached within km (mi) of Charon.
