Beliefs vary greatly, the practice of religion can rule over some people's lives while for others it is but a part of everyday life or a belief they uphold. Many religions feature rituals and practices, such as the performing of prayers or mantras. (EV comic: "Flesh of My Flesh", et al.) Earth has fostered several quite different religions, including Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism.
  • Religion in Middle-earth was generally divided into two mutually exclusive factions: The worship of Melkor and the Worship of Eru Ilúvatar. Ilúvatarism- The worship of Eru Ilúvatar is the religion of the Good Peoples of Middle-earth. The specifics of this religion is largely unknown and unspecified by Tolkien, as there is no mention of temples or holy men. An altar to Ilúvatar was atop Meneltarma in Númenor but was for the most part secluded with no buildings or shrines. Any additional religious sites are never mentioned and it is unknown if they exist or what they look like.
  • Buddhism - usually of the Mahayana tradition - is the dominant religion throughout the system, particularly on the Central Planets. Christianity ranks second, with larger concentrations on the outer worlds, as Christians migrated away from the centers of Buddhism. Most Christians in the 'Verse follow a Protestant tradition hailing back to Earth-That-Was. Catholicism still exists, though the exodus of long ago ended its original structure.

  • The main religion in Equatia is Infintarianism. Infintarianism is the belief that there is no end to one’s life. Infintarianism is a monotheistic religion. Their god is named Infinity. He is said to have the power to make anything happen. The religion’s history starts the day Equatia was created.
  • The theological world of Alyria is a complicated one. The physical plane is not the only one in existence. A good diagram of the universe can be seen as a division from Spiritual unity, to Mental abstractness, to Astral fluidity, to Ethereal certainty, to Physical being.
  • Religion tends to come up in In Nomine, for some strange and inscrutable reason, so here are some notes on it within the R&D setting. While religions are certainly related to God and the celestial realm, the relationship is not clear-cut.
  • Most races possess some sort of cultural faith that reflects their values, fears, and hopes. Some worship gods or demigods as actual beings (either as a God, gods, or demigods is debatable among the races themselves), while some races personify their faiths in the form of a god, but understand that their “god” is really just a symbol of their philosophical beliefs, not an actual being. Others, such as Firelord Ragnaros, are seen by some to have achieved a god-like status. The Warcraft universe does in fact have powerful, immortal beings (such as Elune), the Old Gods, and Azeroth was greatly affected by the Titans. Most racial faiths include the concept of an afterlife, along with cultural mores and taboos to indicate the correct path to the afterlife. Spiritual leaders who guide their race along the proper philosophical path tend to be shaman or druids. Few races revere an actual deity to whom they can dedicate their lives as priests. (DF 88) In the quest File:Neutral 15.png [58] The Formation of Felbane (removed from game in ), the quest giver, Loramus Thalipedes, mentions the concept of a singular god as a blessing; "May your determination and faith, carry you through this ordeal. Should you fail, know that your God smiles down upon you, mortal." Strangely enough, in the first two Warcraft games (including expansions), humans referred to a singular God behind the Holy Light.[citation needed]
  • Religion is a belief in some powerful entity or entities' existence and necessity of obeying various rules and maintaining rituals to earn their benevolence or avoid their wrath.
  • A religion was an organized body of beliefs, tenets and practices centered around the worship of one (monotheism) or many (polytheism) supernatural beings, which claims to provide an explanation of the origins and meaning of human nature, life and the Universe, a relationship between the individual and the divine, and a derivative code of morality for practice in daily life. Most labor slaves bred by Manpower Incorporated of Mesa tended to be deeply religious. (CS2)
  • During Doctor Phlox's stay on Earth, he made a point of studying a number of Earth religions, including Hinduism and Christianity. (ENT: "Cold Front") In 2370, Alixus wondered if new truths could be found in man's ancient religions. (DS9: "Paradise") In 2372, Kira Nerys attributed Miles O'Brien and Jadzia Dax's ability to converse at ease with Benjamin Sisko to the fact that unlike in hers, he was not a significant figure in either of their religions. (DS9: "Starship Down") Upon hearing Odo lament the lack of a shared faith between himself and Kira in 2375, Julian Bashir reminded him that there were other faiths. (DS9: "Covenant") As of 2376, the presence of USS Voyager in orbit above Kelemane's planet had inspired several aspects of their culture, including religion. (VOY: "Blink of an Eye") While trying to discourage the belief that the crew of USS Voyager were spirit folk, Michael Sullivan cautioned that "superstition is the religion of fools." (VOY: "Spirit Folk")
  • Religion, sometimes used interchangeably with "belief system" or "faith", is commonly defined as the beliefs concerning the divine, sacred and/or supernatural; and the institutions, moral codes, practices, rituals and values associated with those beliefs.
  • Gaian scientists describe the Gaia Theory as global nervous system, a planetary-level phenomenon of atmospheric and temperature self-regulation. It is composed of physical chemical, biological and human components. The goal of this climate and chemical regulation is to provide a comfortable state for life. This regulation occurs through interaction of atmospheric gases, surface rocks, water, and the sun with the life-cycle and evolution of living organisms. Geophysiology (the study of the intimate link between biology and ecology on the planetary surface) studies the Earth as a network of species covering the planet's surface incessantly creating new organisms and environments. Gaia is a huge collection of interacting ecosystems that transcends all individual organisms. It is the largest goal-seeking, living entity in the solar system. The sum of the parts of Gaia makes us whole, a holy Earth, our sacred home in the Cosmos. Even though some Gaia scientists insist that Gaia is mere science and has no spiritual basis or consciousness, there is a miraculous feeling as we look at our home planet from Outer Space. The more one becomes enlightened to the magnanimous recycling of matters and gases that make Gaia regulate our temperature, the more we can have reverence for it. In a real way, it becomes a deity; we were made in its image through the interdependence of all the parts. Saying that Gaia has a psychic component to its majesty, and a consciousness that we, as humans, cannot fully grasp, doesn't mean that we--Gaia worshippers—are anti-science. We honor science as a way of discovering more about the mystery of the Earth around us, within us, forever grateful for the breath we were given through its grace. James Lovelock developed the hypothesis naming it Gaia, the Greek Goddess for the Earth after novelist William Golding proposed the name. To quote Albert Einstein, "Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind.” In Doctress Neutopia, aka Libby Hubbard, EdD online book,Gaia, The Planetary Religion: The Sacred Marriage of Art and Science," she makes a case for the Gaia Theory not only being science but a religion. She says that without acknowledging the “biospiritual” component of Gaia, scientists have no way of articulating a pattern of development that leads us into a way to live at peace with Gaia.

  • Religion was invented by a rather paunchy fellow in [insert name of your home town here] at the exact moment he became middle-aged (that is, at the exact moment when he was halfway through his entire lifespan, though he didn't know it at the time). Being a professional comedian who didn't understand the difference between his work and the rest of the real world, he thought it would be excellent to steal an idea from an uglier colleague and start an institution that would serve only one purpose: to be a complete joke that people would fight over.
  • There are four main 'religions' in Renaissance Kingdoms. Each one is based loosely on a real life religion but, as the forum rules state, "...FICTIONAL religions used here in the RK and likewise are NOT a representation of ANY REAL LIFE RELIGION that has been practiced in the past or is in Practice now." Therefore, someone's religion in-game should reflect their character's background, and not modern views of the corresponding religions.
  • Religion doesn't exist in Randland in well-defined terms or sects; instead, most people believe in a distant-but-all-powerful Creator, and the Dark One who opposes him. Individual cultures may create specific beliefs: for example, Children of the Light believe that all Aes Sedai are working for the Dark One, and the Seanchan believe that their Empress is infalliable. Darkfriends, of course, are a special case of belief.
  • Whatever form religion is in in Europa, it is closely analogous to Christianity to the point of using the same terminology (at least as translated from lingua europa), albeit with a mad science twist. * In TPU there is a machine or tank labeled "Do not open until Xmas", and the Mittelmind let most of his research children out of their containment tanks for Christmas. One must have a Christ in order to celebrate a mass (holy day) for him/her. * The first name of Moloch von Zinzer was [ chosen by his mother from the Bible] [[Chronology - Volume #|✣ ]]. The Bible exists, and from the discussion at least one story is similar to the Bible we know. * Hezekiah Donowitz appears wearing a kippah or yarmulke (skullcap), which suggests that Judaism is currently being practiced as a religion. Another unnamed TPU student [ is seen wearing] [[Chronology - Volume #|✣ ]] what appears to be Hasidic-style dress, including rekel (long dark coat), shtreimel or spodik (fur-trimmed hat), and payot (sidelocks). Hebrew also exists as a language, as the [ Schlognwurst] [[Chronology - Volume #|✣ ]] is labeled as כשר (Kosher). * One of the old Heterodynes was called a blasphemer, implying a belief in someone to blaspheme against. * Before their appearing in the actual comic, The Secret Blueprints and Othar's journal refer to the railroad-building order, the Corbettite Monks, whose works seem to be supported by Imperial sponsorship, fudge sales and some more-or-less voluntary payment by passengers on their trains.. The Corbettite Railway is used by Agatha to [ escape] [[Chronology - Volume #|✣ ]] from Gil and Martellus von Blitzengaard. The schedule is [ gospel] [[Chronology - Volume #|✣ ]] and a late train is [ blasphemy] [[Chronology - Volume #|✣ ]]. The Corbettites submit, grudgingly, to the authority of a as-yet-unnamed [ bishop] [[Chronology - Volume #|✣ ]] who is an uncle of Martellus von Blitzengaard. * Many common expletives invoke a higher power of some ilk: "Good Lord!", "Mon dieu". Professor Diaz uses a prayerful oath one might almost imagine as coming from a Corbettite monastery, "Madre de Diodes". * Dame Aedith, vampire hunter, wears a high collar with a Greek Cross, or crux immissa quadrata, inside a circle imprinted on it. This, combined with the notion of vampire hunters bedecking themselves in holy symbols, suggests the existence of Christianity.

  • ‘Religion’ after all means to Reconnect, according to Cicero derived from relegere "go through again" (in reading or in thought), from re- "again" (see re-) + legere "read" (see lecture (n.)). Latin religionem (nominative religio) "respect for what is sacred, reverence for the gods; conscientiousness, sense of right, moral obligation; fear of the gods; divine service, religious observance; a religion, a faith, a mode of worship, cult; sanctity, holiness," in Late Latin "monastic life" (5c.).
  • As in human cultures, in many continuities the Transformers have possessed religion to help them explain and cope with their place in the universe. In continuities where they exist, Transformer spiritual and religious beliefs are usually specifically illustrated to be truth rather than legend or superstition.

These references are listed in this article. Christianity, Atheism, Judaism, Epsilonism, Buddhism, Altruism exist in the Universes of the game.
  • Religion plays an important factor in Rise of Kings, and confers many cultural bonuses, which may be shared between one or more factions. The bonuses of a religion stack with the national powers of each faction. Each faction starts off with a fixed religion, each of which has its own special set of bonuses.

  • Religion plays a large role in Fall from Heaven - much more so than in a normal game of Civilization. Each religion plays completely differently from all others, giving access to unique units, civics, buildings, spells and abilities, as well as modifying a civilization's Alignment. For example, following the teachings of the Order allows access to Confessors (powerful support casters), Basilicas (unique buildings that reduce mainenance), as well as the Social Order civic (allows military units to grant happiness like the Hereditary Rule civic from Civilization 4). The Ashen Veil, on the other hand, enables the training of Ritualists (offensive area-of-effect damage priests) and the Sacrifice the Weak civic (halves food requirements for cities), as well as many other things. The following religions are, in the order from Good to Evil: The Order Junil, the elder of the Gods, had promised to stay apart from the conflict in Creation. No one knows why he decided to change his mind, some say it was to combat the influence of the Ashen Veil, others that it was jealousy. Regardless of his reasons, he promised salvation to the least of men and asked only one thing in return: unquestioning obedience. The Empyrean Where the Order values law, the Empyrean values wisdom. Adjudication started from the teachings of Lugus and punishment is not based on adherence to a labyrinthian codex of laws, but from direct consol on the merits of each case. Social equality and impartiality are the model between a government and its citizens as well as between empires. As such the Empyrean gives equal voice to small empires as it does those that dominate Erebus. Runes of Kilmorph Kilmorph is the goddess of the earth, She Who Dwells Beneath. She formed children out of stone, the Dwarves, and taught them the secrets of metalworking. One of the first religions available to the men of the world, Kilmorph will answer the prayers of honorable men and even send her soldiers to defend their cities. Fellowship of Leaves Deep in the woods, the whispers of Elves linger. Ancient protectors normally above the affairs of men, some men have shown enough loyalty to them to be taught their magic. Octopus Overlords The power beneath the Aegean waves is said to be more powerful than any other, but the Overlords are unfocused and follow a thousand different obscure agendas. The Disciples of the Overlords dare not expose themselves directly to the conflicting commands of their masters and instead use the poor as intermediaries. They are quickly driven insane by the process, which the disciples prefer as it keeps them from manipulating the message. They also share the process of turning a Warrior into The Drown, undead thralls, a process with few volunteers. Council of Esus An oddity among the religions the Council of Esus has no disciples, priests, high priests or temples. Instead all of its abilities are practiced by units that worship the religion. Any unit that worships Esus can pay to spread religion in a city. That theme, paying for miracles, is common in the Council of Esus. Mages spent weeks in meditation, exploring the farthest reaches of the ethereal world. The demands of the body were ignored, and they survived sustained only by magic. Their efforts were rewarded, a sentience was contacted, dark and horrible. It whispered secrets into the mages' minds, secrets of necromancy, diseases, sacrifical rites. It promised power in exchange for their blood, and they freely gave it.
  • Religion is a belief or faith in a group of ideas. Dharm has two meanings: 1. * LAW or ethical standard. 2. * FAITH or Belief in the supernatural.
  • Anu is the first being of existence and the origin of pure good. The dark being of Tathamet, a seven headed dragon, was created when Anu shed all evil from his form which later manifested into being. It is said that the world began when these beings destroyed each other after a great battle. The Worldstone is thought to be Anu's eye, while the Crystal Arch seems to be his spine and the foundation of the High Heavens. The five archangels of the Angiris Council were created out of Anu's five virtues, while the Great Evils were spawned from Tathamet's seven heads.
  • Though religion was formed as a way of finding solace and obtaining spiritual peace, it came to be used as a justification for war as well: for Humanity on Earth, time and again wars and massacres would rise up because of religious discrimination - ranging from the Spanish Inquisition to the work of Islamic terrorist groups in the late 20th century to the Star Riots of the 2160's - and the Covenant would continuously use its' religion, the Great Journey, as means of which to convict and suppress other races, waging holy wars that would either incorporate the races into the lower castes of society, or drive them to extinction. It was because of these tendencies to at times authorize bloodshed that multiple attempts to completely outlaw religion would be made among the galaxy's races. For Humanity, there had been numerous governments throughout history that had evoked state religions, leading to either the state or the religious system to persecute those who believed differently, with such instances lasting into the 21st century. However, the true end-all-be-all attempt came in the 2170's, when the fall-out of the Star Riots brought mass protests from numerous anti-war groups, as well as groups of atheists that felt their right to not have a religion was being threatened; numerous attempts and petitions were made and sent to the UEG's Department of Justice, but all proved to no avail, as after the Supreme Court of Justice finally relented and held the infamous “Religion vs The People” case, a three-fourth's majority of the Court stated that it could not justify the outlawing of religion among the people, as such was beyond their jurisdiction. Despite the firmness of the Court's statement, several radical groups attempted to kidnap members of the Court and hold them hostage until religion was banned; this attempt, as well as the other violence-based demonstrations that ran concurrently, were all thwarted with the assistance of the Colonial Militia. Though there have since been other attempts to ban religion within the UEG, all attempts have still failed, and an anti-religious movement of such magnitude has yet to arise again. The anti-religious movement of the Covenant was not only long in the coming, but much more subtle and harder to notice or define: in the aftermath of the Great War and through the Great Schism that followed, the Separatists began to struggle with the lack of any form of spiritual guidance or purpose, a quite prominent facet of their everyday lives that had been torn from them in the turmoil of the Schism. So, while many of the Sangheili questioned whether or not they should involve themselves in religion again, some of the more devout members of the race began introspective vigils, the end result of which was the birth of many of the Great Journey's post-Schism denominations. However, even as a large number of the Sangheili flocked to fill the theological hole within their spirits, an equal number continued as atheists, soon widely known as The Unbound by the rest of the Sangheili. Despite these attempts at killing religion off, however, religion continued to persist, and thrive even: most of the denominations practiced had survived for over 600 years at the least, with numerous new religions having become popular over the course of the 26th century, some controversially so. Now not only confined to one species, but mixing the beliefs of different cultures together, even more religions and sects began to develop, with the most prominent example being Jitjism, the second most popular religion of the Unggoy, whose tenets combine the Covenant beliefs with those of Christianity, Judaism and Islam, attracting numerous followers from those religions as well.

  • The religion is monotheistic, centered around the worship of "The Watcher." The name of the religion as a whole is unknown; it may not even have one. Either way, it has split into two named branches, mirroring medieval Christianity and its schism into Catholicism and Protestantism. The Jacoban branch believes the Watcher to be an angry, vengeful god and claims that Sims must live by strict moral code to avoid punishment. Getting Sims to submit to this code and fear punishment by the Watcher enough to want to be absolved is the main goal of Jacoban priests. Jacoban clothing and buildings are grand, especially their cathedrals. The Peteran branch believe the Watcher to be a compassionate and loving god who wants Sims to have happiness. The faith is rather informal; priests often use humor in scheduled sermons and tend to engage in impromptu public sermons and evangelizing. Peterans are cerebral and seem to practice a form of mysticism, often praying for answers and writing down religious texts and tracts. Peteran buildings and clothes are visually more humble than Jacoban, with simple robes and monasteries. It's important to note that, despite heavy inclination, Jacobans are not necessarily Evil and Peterans are not necessarily Good; a Sim's faith only indicates whether they think the Watcher is loving or vengeful. Thus, it's possible (if very unusual) to have a Good, Friendly, Insecure Jacoban priest and an Evil, Greedy, Misanthropic Peteran priest.

  • Religion is a system of beliefs--a set of collective convictions on matters of spirituality that give meaning to the adherent's life choices and experiences. It is often the collective element that distinguishes religion from personal faith or spirituality; that said, many religions speak of a personal experience or encounter that occurs within the individual frame of reference that cannot be conveyed strictly from the outside. These may take the form of visions, dreams, feelings, thoughts, or even interpersonal experiences that, when seen through the frame of belief, take on a transcendent significance in the believer's life. Deity is a common feature of religion, although not universal (see Earth's Taoism for an example, and Klingon spirituality, whose texts state that the Klingons slew their deities) and in some cases life forces or truth may be regarded as sacred in a more impersonal fashion. In the case of religions where belief in a deity is present, these can usually be classified as monotheistic (belief in one god) or polytheistic (belief in many gods). For example, the Cardassian Oralian Way centers upon the worship of the deity Oralius and is monotheistic. (DS9 novel: A Stitch in Time) The human religion of Hinduism explicitly lays out a belief in many deities and is therefore polytheistic. Certain systems, however, may be more complex: while named plurally, for instance, the Bajoran Prophets are worshipped collectively, never as separate entities. Most denominations of Earth's Christianity espouse a belief in the Trinity, in which a single deity is expressed in three Persons which appear distinctly and are yet a single force. Hydrans were known to possess a collection of gods but they were free to worship any god separately. The tenets of a religion are generally codified in some fashion, ranging from oral tradition to holy texts like the Bible (human--Christian), the Prophecies of Bajor (Bajoran), or the Hebitian Records (Cardassian). These traditions and texts are often considered to be, to varying degrees, inspired by or even directly authored by the deities or supernatural forces in question. Rituals, meditation, and prayer are often inspired by or directly prescribed by these traditions and texts, and are usually considered by believers as a way to draw closer to their god or motive force. Ritual objects or even drugs are sometimes involved in these practices, such as the Bajoran Orbs or Oralian recitation masks and the akoonah used by Chakotay, whereas other believers may conduct their prayers without any such aids. Most believers also say that their beliefs entail that they should live and relate to their fellow beings in a certain manner, and that this affects them in manners that cannot be scientifically observed. Such systems of positive and negative consequences include the Hindu idea of karma or the Abrahamic notions of Heaven and Hell. Analogous beliefs to these, and others yet, have been found in many places throughout the known galaxy. In some cases, entire societies may organize themselves along religious lines as everything from timekeeping to social institutions to law to leadership may have their roots in religious belief. Bajor may be one of the most well-known examples of this, though an alternate version of Cardassia exhibits a somewhat similar arrangement though differing slightly in degree. (Sigils and Unions: Catacombs of Oralius) Others maintain a strict separation between religious and other sociopolitical institutions. Some societies, such as Cardassia in the prime universe, have actively attempted to suppress religious belief and persecute the believers. (DS9 novels: Terok Nor trilogy) While majorities in some societies, such as 24th-century Earth, have rejected religion, it should be noted that each society's relationship to its religion differs. For instance, while on Earth and Voth religion was often seen as being in conflict with science, Cardassian believers in the Oralian Way perceived no such difficulty. (VOY: "Distant Origin", Sigils and Unions: Catacombs of Oralius--"The Desolate Vigil") Some worlds have experienced violent conflict on religious grounds or inspired by religion--such as the Dominion, which went as far as to genetically program religious beliefs into its servant races, whereas others, such as the Ferengi, have had little in the way of war on religious grounds. Religion could serve as the impetus for oppression or be abused by the unscrupulous, as befell the Ventaxians and Xindi, or as a catalyst for positive social change such as in the Earth nonviolent protest movements led by Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi.
  • Religion is a knowledge type skill linked to Intelligence. It can be used to gather knowledge about religious knowledge or to recognize a religion-related clue. You have picked up knowledge about gods, religious traditions and ceremonies, divine effects, holy symbols, and theology. • The word religion is derived from the Latin religare, which means "to bind, to tie up." It can best be described as a culture of people united under a certain set of beliefs or ideas (memes). A religion can spread, memetically, through conversion of non-believers into believers, through any number of memetic channels. Through this method, the religion uses people to simply create more of itself, like a virus.

The basic principles of this religion are: 1. * Personality: No religion may be obligated or recommended in order to keep a treaty, a friendship or any other social or formal relation. Religion or philosophical institutions are no exceptions. Those who shape their own beliefs are elevated. 2. * Freedom: Believing, quitting, modifying and adopting of a religion must be allowed for everyone without any fee and obligation, Those who pay for beliefs, whether by tithe, tuition, or consultation, are diminished. Those who disseminate their beliefs freely are elevated. The value of knowledge is due to secrecy, and secrecy is an abomination. 3. * Equality: Those who judge others on the basis of what religions they believe are diminished. Those who judge others on their capacity to believe are elevated. Therefore, one should never condemn another if he holds an opposing religion. Instead, he should strive to hold both opposing religions. For to hold opposing religions is a feat of flexibility, which elevates. 4. * Higher priority for laws and sciences: Those who allow a religion to constrain their actions are diminished. Those who act in the moment are elevated. All beliefs of any religion is error, but through erring we prepare for the moment. 5. * Need of improvement: Beliefs are improved through constant modification. To hold a belief out of tradition diminishes.

  • Religion is a system of beliefs held by a group of people involving the practice of certain beliefs and customs. Beliefs vary greatly, the practice of religion can rule over some people's lives while for others it is but a part of everyday life or a belief they uphold. The numerous religions found throughout the galaxy vary widely, but there are many common themes. Many religions feature a god often held responsible for the creation of and/or guidance of a civilization or the entire universe. Many religions also feature an afterlife, commonly including places for the good and evil, heaven and the underworld, or hell. (TNG comic: "Captain's Pleasure", et al.) Many religions feature rituals and practices, such as the performing of prayers or mantras. (EV comic: "Flesh of My Flesh", et al.) It is also common for religions to feature stories of creation and significant figures in the history of religion, often intended to teach a moral. For some, these stories reflect an actual history, whilst for others, those who follow the religion and those who do not, they are sometimes seen more as tales as guidance, not to be taken as the literal truth. For instance, in the Bajoran religion the Prodigal was a significant figure, and as such the namesake of one of Bajor's moon, Baraddo, to the many Bajorans this was historic fact and valuable to their religion, but the Tellarite Gann considered it more of a fairy tale whilst Keiko O'Brien interpreted the Bajoran religion more along the lines of a mythology. (DS9 novel: Devil in the Sky) The Prophets, the gods of Bajoran religion, feature in the religious beliefs of several races, though each race's interpretation of them is quite different. To the Bajorans the Prophets guide and protect Bajor, they are gods to be revered. To the Eav'oq, the Siblings (as they call the prophets), are considered more spiritual equals, whilst to the Ascendants the True are beings to aspire to be, they seek the Fortress of the True in the hope of being judged worthy of joining their gods. (DS9 novel: Rising Son) Certain artifacts often hold religious significance, sometimes from actual mystical properties of the artefacts, such as the Bajoran Orbs, or for symbolic or historic reasons, such as the Tellarite Scroll of Eternal Feasting. (DS9 episode: "Emissary"; DS9 novel: Devil in the Sky) For the Skorr, it was the Soul of Skorr. A sculpture made of indurite; it acted as a katric ark containing the life energy of their most hallowed prophet, Alar. Lara, a hunter/scout, invoked the "Seven Gods", a pantheon in their religion as to why Tchar took to acts of crusadership over it. (TAS episode: "The Jihad") Earth has fostered several quite different religions, including Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism. Many Cardassians follow a religion called the Oralian Way which dates back to the Hebitian civilization and the worship of the deity Oralius. (DS9 novel: A Stitch in Time)

  • A word describing the many ways one can accept Jesus as their savior, though some pagans like to use the term for nominating their satanist cults. Sometimes, 'religion' is also referred to as "church", such as in church & state. Some theologists define religion as a belief held by a certain group of people. Some of them argue that it is the only way for a society to keep from collapsing. It's proven that the society won't colapse as long as the society follows the Christian religion. Pagan countries such as North Korea, Iran, and Syria live in dystopia because they aren't Christians and are going to Hell. In general, it is encouraged that people follow whatever religion or faith they choose; there are infinite paths to Accepting Jesus Christ as Your Personal Lord and Savior. Recently, theologists have defined that there are only four religions in the world: Christians (the only true and real religion), Mormons, Pagans, and Atheists. These religions can be divided in two groups: "going to heaven" (Christians) and "going to Hell!" (pagans and atheists). Mormons have the right to go to haven, but they can take only one wife with them.
  • Religion is the belief in and worship of a god or gods, or a set of beliefs concerning the origin and purpose of the universe . It is commonly regarded as consisting of a person’s relation to God or to gods or spirits. Many religions have narratives, symbols, traditions and sacred histories associated with their deity or deities, that are intended to give meaning to life. They tend to derive ethics, religious laws or a preferred lifestyle from their ideas about the cosmos and human nature. The word religion is sometimes used interchangeably with faith or belief system, but it is more than private belief and has a public aspect. Most religions have organized behaviors, congregations for prayer, priestly hierarchies, holy places and scriptures. Academics studying the subject have defined religion into three broad categories: world religions, a term which refers to transcultural, international faiths, indigenous religions, which refers to smaller, culture-specific religious groups, and new religious movements, which refers to recently developed faiths. The development of religion has taken different forms in different cultures. Some religions place greater emphasis on belief, some on practice. Some emphasize the subjective experience of the religious individual, some the activities of the community. Some religions are said to be universalistic, intending their claims to be binding on everyone, in contrast to ethnic religions, intended only for one group. Religion often makes use of meditation, music and art. In many places it has been associated with public institutions such as education and the family and with government and political power. One of the more influential theories of religion today is social constructionism, which says that religion is a modern concept that developed from Christianity and was then applied inappropriately to non-Western cultures.

The Mormon church still exists as well. The Hubologists are even more active than before the War. Followers of Dharma also exist; such as Hindus, Buddhists and Sikhs—Aradesh is a prime example.

  • Religion is a word difficult to define. It refers to the beliefs concerning an object or person considered to be supernatural or divine, and the moral values and rituals associated with such belief. Many people believe that a supreme being (God) exists but that he is essentially unknowable. This is known as agnosticism. Other people believe that there is no such thing as a God, a view known as atheism. Other people believe there is one God who has revealed information about himself to humanity, and this view is known as monotheism. Some of the most well known monotheistic religions are Christianity, Islam and Judaism. Many people believe that there are many divine beings or gods, a view called polytheism. Hinduism is the most well known polytheistic religion.
One group of Christian missionaries, the Order of Shepherds, still follows the monastic tradition. These men and women take vows of poverty and chastity similar to those of a priest or monk of old. They may live and work in an abbey or travel the Black to find a flock in need of a Shepherd. Their peaceful order is generally respected throughout the system. Shepherds look to Christian scripture as their faith's grounding. They do not claim to have all the answers, but are here to help spread the word to those that need it told to. There are many other religious groups in the 'Verse, including Muslims, Jews, and Hindus, who tend to form their own communities where they can worship in a body, follow their own traditions, and bring up their children in their own culture. Out on the Rim, one can find any number of faith healers and wandering preachers who have founded their own churches or, in some instances, established entire communities. Some of these people are well-meaning and do lots of good, but others are swindlers, who use what they call religion to bilk the innocent out of their hard earned money.
  • Religion was often used interchangeably with the terms "faith" and "belief system" or "belief structure". • Tyrell has the appearance of a living god from within a pyramid above the clouds that exudes wealth and power. This self-image is reinforced when Tyrell assumes the role of the gods by dimming the sun on command. Given the replicants' superhuman abilities, they are created by Tyrell and fall from the heavens (off-world) makes them analogous to fallen angels. Roy Batty shares many similarities in this context with Lucifer as he seeks an audience with Tyrell using J.F. Sebastian who shares the replicants' "accelerated decrepitude". This connection is also apparent when Roy deliberately misquotes William Blake, "Fiery the angels fell..." (Blake wrote "Fiery the angels rose..." in America, A Prophecy). Zhora makes use of a serpent that "once corrupted man" in her performance. Nearing the end of his life Roy creates a stigmata as he transitions into a Christ-like figure who provides salvation to Deckard. Upon his death Roy's soul ascends into the heavens in the form of a dove; which appears to fulfill Tyrell's premature metaphor of the Prodigal Son .

Melkorism- The Worship of Melkor is also not elaborated much by Tolkien, but if the worship of Melkor by the Númenóreans are any indication, then human sacrifice plays a part in Melkorism. The Temple to Melkor in Númenor was described as being domed with a hole in the top to allow smoke from the fire below to exit as wood and human sacrifices are burned. The humans under the domain of the Enemy worship Melkor as God, denying the existence of Eru Ilúvatar, Sauron told the Númenóreans that Ilúvatar is a lie told by the Valar to keep the Númenóreans from power. Sauron, since the downfall of Melkor has had himself worshiped as a god by his subjects, it is unknown if other dark entities such as Saruman are also worshiped as deities in Melkorism.

Though even in this, there are wide differences. In the north of the country this takes the form of Kernos of the Northern Lights and Astera of the Stars. The patriarchal Holderkin in the southeast have a dominant god and a passive, subservient goddess. There are some monotheistic religions as well. In the Three Rivers area is a such a group, whose religion centers on their holy book, the Book of One. The Karsite Sun religion, worshiping Vkandis is also practiced in Haven and along the Karsite border. It is monotheistic in nature as well.
  • Religion is an organized collection of beliefs, cultural systems, and world views that relate humanity to an order of existence. Many religions have narratives, symbols, and sacred histories that are intended to explain the meaning of life and/or to explain the origin of life or the Universe. From their beliefs about the cosmos and human nature, people derive morality, ethics, religious laws or a preferred lifestyle. According to some estimates, there are roughly 4,200 religions in the world. Many religions may have organized behaviors, clergy, a definition of what constitutes adherence or membership, holy places, and scriptures. The practice of a religion may also include rituals, sermons, commemoration or veneration of a deity, gods or goddesses, sacrifices, festivals, feasts, trance, initiations, funerary services, matrimonial services, meditation, prayer, music, art, dance, public service or other aspects of human culture. Religions may also contain mythology. The word religion is sometimes used interchangeably with faith, belief system or sometimes set of duties; however, in the words of Émile Durkheim, religion differs from private belief in that it is "something eminently social". A global 2012 poll reports that 59% of the world's population is religious, and 36% are not religious, including 13% who are atheists, with a 9 percent decrease in religious belief from 2005. On average, women are more religious than men. Some people follow multiple religions or multiple religious principles at the same time, regardless of whether or not the religious principles they follow traditionally allow for syncretism. As in human cultures, many Transformers possess religion to help them explain and cope with their place in the universe. There are various gods and religious figures the Transformers are known to believe in. Like the real world, there are differing beliefs as to whether Transformer spiritual and religious beliefs are true rather than just legend or superstition. The Covenant of Primus is a compilation of prophecies that can be regarded as the Transformers bible. This article is a . You can help My English Wiki by expanding it.

  • The city of Doramraz doesn’t have an official religion. The majority of citizens are agnostic or just don’t really think about religion at all. However, there have been foreign religions that have somehow managed to gain some followers in Doramraz, though there aren’t very many. Those who do follow some sort of spirituality sometimes form religious clubs with other believers. Some of the members of these clubs meet together at regular intervals, either at rented out restaurants or theatre halls or even someone’s residence, if it’s large enough. Some of the richer members even build temples/churches to their deity/deities. It should be noted that many of these religions that have made their way to Doramraz haven’t exactly stayed the same throughout the years. At the moment, here are the descriptions of the two largest religious groups:
  • Religion is the belief in and worship of a deity. Various people and civilizations in the world follow a vast array of religions, and various allusions to gods, devils, and religion have been made through architecture and speech.
  • Because of the mysterious occurrences on the Island, and the varied predispositions of its inhabitants, many different religions and ideologies are explored in Lost. The characters themselves represent several faiths, and the show alludes to various religious beliefs and stories, such as belief in God.
  • A multitude of different religions are worshiped by different cultures and peoples in the Known World, across the three continents of Westeros, Essos, and Sothoryos. Individual religious devotion in all societies is of course on a spectrum, from devout adherents to those that just go through some of the motions by rote as a cultural norm. Moreover, some people are irreligious and privately don't believe in any gods or religious systems.
  • A religion is a set of beliefs and practices aimed at ordering a person's relationship with the supernatural, often personified as God or a pantheon of deities and spirits. Religions involve adherence to moral codes and rituals and study of ancestral or cultural traditions, writings, history, and mythology, as well as personal faith and mystic experience. The term "religion" refers to both the personal practices related to communal faith and to group rituals and communication stemming from shared conviction.
