  • Most Near-Humans shared close external similarities to Humans, usually with small differences in skin and eye color or bone structure. Biologically, many Near-Humans were capable of interbreeding with baseline Humans. Some were close enough to the Human baseline to be considered a race or ethnic group of Humans, rather than a separate species. Similarly, some groups, biologically classified as Humans, though differing from the Human mainstream almost entirely in their culture, were considered so distinct that they were sometimes referred to as Near-Human.

Maximus presumably assumed that Atomic Betty was near-human, as he didn't believe she was from Earth despite her obviously human appearance. (No Space Like Home)
  • Near-humans was a term used to refer to species that were closely related to, but still distinct from baseline humans. The Tarkin family of the planet Eriadu employed a near-human servant named Nomma at their family home during the childhood of Wilhuff Tarkin. Shortly after the destruction of the planet Alderaan, a number of near-humans lived in a fugitive camp built in the junkyards of Level 1782 on the planet Coruscant. Notable near-human species included the Zabrak, the Uugteen, the Mirialans, the Umbarans, the Koorivar, the Chiss, the Twi'lek and the Pantoran.
  • Near-Humans was the general term for any of the many species, subspecies, or races in the Galaxy which were very closely related biologically to baseline Humans. In contrast, other humanoid species only had general external similarities to Humans, and had no biological connection. However, the term "humanoid" was sometimes used loosely to describe Near-Human species.

In The Last Guardian, Garona makes various statements that there was a different group of humans living on Draenor than those the orcs later discovered on Azeroth, who were possibly rendered extinct some time before. When first explaining this to Khadgar, Medivh surmised that her homeland had "humans, or near-humans, or at least had them within living memory." Later on, Khadgar saw a vision of Gul'dan's quarters on Draenor, in which he kept "preserved things, some of which might have once belonged to human or humanish creatures" inside one of the cabinets along his walls.

Later on, Khadgar saw a vision of Gul'dan's quarters on Draenor, in which he kept "preserved things, some of which might have once belonged to human or humanish creatures" inside one of the cabinets along his walls. They were similar enough physically, mentally, and culturally for them to give Garona insight on humans of Azeroth, discovered through the newly opened Dark Portal. Garona believed that she was half-orc and had half-human heritage from these Draenor-born humans. According to her, it was Medivh who "made [her] feel human. And [she hadn't] felt human in a long, long time." She specifically stated that she was "of both Orc and Human lineage" (W1ManO 44) and "neither." Orcs only "[saw] the parts of [her] that [were] human;" they said her "human hand" was "too slender to be really useful, [did] not [have] enough muscle to hold an ax or bash a skull in properly—too pale, too weak, and too ugly." However, it was later confirmed that she is instead half-draenei, but was deceived by Gul'dan to believe that she was half-human.
