Quote | - "The understanding that I reached was with myself, that I had to be realistic about what the network expected of me and about what the chances for the show would be. Like, I fell in love with Firefly in a very blind and adolescent way. And I tried to meet the network halfway. But at the same time, you know, it was agony. Everything was agony for me. ... And now I come at it with a little distance. Not artistic distance. But just, you know, the grown-up attitude of, you go through certain steps. You do your best. You work with them. And you pick the people you're working with. You look for sanity and you look for intelligence. So far, I have found a great deal of both in the executives at Fox. If I had gone there and pitched to them, and they had not understood what I was telling them, I think I would have known."
- "They wanted, the first thing I wrote was sort of laying out how that would happen... in the next episode. They were like, "No, we want it to happen in [this] episode so people get it from that." And then, you know, upping the action and deciding to roll out... change certain events that ultimately made it so that I just junked the other pilot. This won't be the second episode because this isn't what the network wants, this isn't the kind of show they want. This is something you could do two years in when everybody's familiar with it and you don't have to explain it. I always hold to the premise that the first six episodes are the first six pilots. You have to be able to come in and just go, "Oh, okay. So that's the premise and here it is delivered in this fashion." And I did get a little turned around. There was times when I was like, wait a minute, are the things that I care about still in the show? [Laughs.] Because some things that I was interested in - the more twisted elements of the human psyche and some of the more quieter aspects of it, kind of got shunned to the side."
- "It was more... in the emphasis and the feel of the show and the way it rolled out. The things that the network clearly wanted to... shooting a new pilot was my idea. Because the network, they were looking for something specific. I thought I delivered it because they were very excited about the script. They weren't as excited about the show so we talked about why and why and why and I figured out what they wanted. We talked about those things and it was obvious they wanted more of an action feel than a noir feel. What I had done was very sort of dark and moody. And they wanted a show, a first episode that absolutely laid out the structure of the show, which is - Echo is at the Dollhouse, she is imprinted for an engagement, she goes on the engagement, she comes back from the engagement into the Dollhouse. This is how it works."
- "I know that it has a bad reputation. But so do the executives who built the sort of Terminator/Dollhouse entity, and they've been very up-front about a different expectation about audience numbers and slow growth. I think that they get—in a way that they really didn't back in the days of Firefly—that genre is ... something where a small group embraces it, and then it bleeds out. I mean, occasionally you get something like Lost, where it's like, "Bang! America's watching!" But that doesn't usually happen. So these are both shows that ... have, ... in their own way, kind of complicated premises. Even though Terminator has a sort of slam-dunk of, "There is a Terminator." And there are some real similarities between them, so I really like that pairing. I was never comfortable being paired with 24. That's not exactly the kind of thing that I'm behind. ... And I'm a devotee of Terminator, and I feel like the only problem I have is in the case they do something so much like what we're doing. ... Sometimes we'll come to the writers' room the day after it airs, and all look at each other and go like, "OK, back to work. We've got to change that.""

- Joss Whedon is a popular director, producer and screenwriter best known for directing The Avengers and its sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron, as well as being the creator of numerous television shows including cult-favorites such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly. Whedon's insistence on creating strong female characters has been a generous source of fap material to feminists for over 20 years. He is one of the few people with a Y chromosome (alongside trans people) that most feminists wouldn't brutally murder if given the chance. Along with making fleshed-out characters intent on pandering to feminist ideology, Joss has always been vocal about his feminism and is also an avid supporter of Anita Sarkeesian and her "work". They couldn't ask for anyone better. Despite this, he was attacked on Twitter by hordes of insane feminists because of the depiction of Black Widow in his latest film Age of Ultron which they deemed as perpetuating the damsel-in-distress cliché that Anita herself condemns (using the same bullshit standards that Anita sets out). Anyone who isn't a complete moron would know that Whedon was attempting this thing called "character development" (you know, the second most important thing in storytelling after minority representation).

Mr. Whedon is also well-known for not being afraid to kill off beloved main characters in the course of a show, often at or near the climax. Since this sort of behavior is unusual for most writers, even the most genre-savvy fans may find it difficult to predict these twists, even knowing to expect them. This means two things: one, Mr. Whedon's name is routinely cursed by people just coming to said twists for the first time; and two, it's such an awesome ride that we can't wait to come back for more. Y'know, once we stop crying.

After several years as a script doctor, he went back to TV, where he created three cult TV shows. In 2002, Firefly, which Whedon produced with Tim Minear, was canceled by Fox after only 11 episodes had been aired, out of intended sequence, from a total of only 14 produced (including the original two-hour pilot, which was the last episode to be aired on Fox). The treatment that Firefly received at the hands of Fox executives has caused Whedon to state that he refuses to work with Fox again, under any circumstances. Whedon had been writing a movie script based on the TV series for Universal Studios for about a year when the Firefly series was released on DVD. The excellent sales of the DVD set ensured the movie would be produced, and in early 2004 Whedon announced that his proposal for a Firefly movie had been greenlighted by Universal. Shooting started in July 2004, and the film, Serenity, went into wide release in the United States on September 30, 2005 to widespread critical and fan acclaim, but mediocre results at the box office. The three-issue miniseries Serenity: Those Left Behind, leading up to the film Serenity, was released June through August 2005. Co-written with Brett Matthews and penciled by Will Conrad, the first issue featured covers drawn by John Cassaday, J. G. Jones, and Bryan Hitch, as well as other artists for the second and third issues. The first two issues sold out and went to a second printing. The trade paperback featured a new cover by acclaimed painter Adam Hughes. Whedon has mentioned that more Serenity comics are planned for the near future, and will be based in the Firefly continuation of the series.
- Whedon also wrote the screenplay for the 2000 film Titan A.E., featuring Ron Perlman.

- Joss Whedon helped work on the screenplay for Toy Story. He later went on to make TV shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, and Dollhouse. He also worked on movies such as Serenity, Titan A.E., Doctor Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, The Avengers, and others.
- Whedon also created Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Dollhouse, and has written several film screenplays and comic book series. He was educated at Winchester College in England and received a film degree from Wesleyan University in 1987. After moving to Los Angeles, California, USA, Whedon secured his first writing job on the television series Roseanne.
