Details
  • Captain Marvel was a superhero who protected Fawcett City, and a former member of the Justice League. William "Billy" Batson was a young boy who by saying the magic word "SHAZAM" became the powerful and popular crime-fighter Captain Marvel. Still coming into his own as a young super-hero, Billy would strive to follow the example of his favorite hero: Superman. To his credit, Captain Marvel quickly became respected and admired, both in his home of Fawcett City and beyond. He was eventually extended an invitation to join the expanded Justice League. Billy believed in fair play, taking people at their word and giving them the benefit of the doubt, an optimistic viewpoint that very often borders on naiveté . He attended C.C. Binder Elementary School.

S- for the fists of Solomon H- for the brains of Hercules A- for the troubles of Atlas Z- for the pinky fingers of Zeus A- for the heel of Achilles M- for the left eye of Hermes All Billy had to do was say the word, SHAZAM, and he would become a middle aged superhero. Of course this gave him many problems. First, he would lose all his fights because he had the fists of an old man. Second, he would fail in school because Hercules was never that smart. He also started having back problems. He felt like the world was resting on his shoulders. His hands got really stressed out and his pinkies started swelling. He started to have a limp, his heel was killing him. Then he became cross eyed for some reason. So the writers quickly changed his powers to: S- for the wisdom of Solomon H- for the strength of Hercules A- for the stamina of Atlas Z- for the power of Zeus A- for the courage of Achilles M- for the speed of Mercury. He was now the perfect superhero. Or was he? Writer Alfred E. Neuman decided to give Marvel new superpowers. The Powers of SHAZOOM! Strength Health Aptitude Zeal Ox, power of Ox, power of another Money! Neuman renamed Captain Marvel, Captain Marbles although the story had a tragic end. Captain Marbles was hit by a train, but lived. He forgot his identity, though, so to revive him they had to make him remember Captain Marvel. /Sigh/ Such a sad story. The shit's bananas. That's:

  • Captain Marvel is a comic book superhero originally created by C. C. Beck and Bill Parker for Fawcett Publications, currently owned by DC Comics. Whenever young boy Billy Batson utters the word "Shazam!" he turns into the World's Mightiest Mortal, Captain Marvel. He debuted in 1940 and soon sold more comics than Superman. A lawsuit from National Comics (not yet DC in name) which began in 1941, alleging that Captain Marvel infringed on the Superman copyright as a mere facsimile, lasted for years. In 1952, the court found in favor of National, Fawcett settled, and Captain Marvel was retired in 1953. In 1972, DC bought all of Fawcett's characters, including the Captain, but in the intervening years, Marvel Comics had copyrighted the name "Captain Marvel" for their own purposes. Thus DC typically used Shazam! (the name of the word of power, and of the ancient wizard who bestowed it on Billy) as the title for the comics, and in media adaptations (including a 1974-1976 live-action series) before ultimately renaming the character "Shazam" in 2011. In 1985, Jim Henson cited Captain Marvel as one of his favorite comic book characters: "I've always been interested in comic books as an art form, and when I was younger I was addicted to them. I read Superman and Superboy, but Captain Marvel was probably my favorite of the super-heroes.
