  • Superman is a superhero published by DC Comics since 1938. An alien named Kal-El from the destroyed planet Krypton. he was sent to Earth and raised as Clark Kent by human foster parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent. As an adult, Superman became the protector of Earth, working at the Daily Planet as Clark Kent along side his partner and wife Lois Lane.
  • "Justice League, into action!"-Superman [src] See Also: Superman (Diasambiguation) See Also: Nightwing (Diasambiguation) Superman is the most powerful being on planet Earth, an alien immigrant named Kal-El from the planet Krypton who was raised in Smallville, Kansas, to become an American superhero. Raised with high moral ideals, he uses his incredible strength, speed, flight and various other superpowers to fight evil and protect the innocent. In his civilian identity he is Clark Kent, a mild-mannered reporter working for the Daily Planet in Metropolis. He is a founding member of the Justice League of America and a charter member of the Legion of Super-Heroes in the 30th Century.
  • Alongside many other superheroes, he fought in a massive battle with The Perfect One, which even his incredible power wasn't enough to overcome. He, and the other heroes, were defeated. (The Perfect One: "T.P.O vs. Superheroes of Earth")
  • Performer(s) Appeared in Superman is a DC Comics superhero who first appeared in Action Comics #1 in 1938. The character, created by Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel for National Comics (as DC Comics was known at the time), subsequently has appeared in various radio serials, television programs, films, and video games. The origin story of Superman relates that he was born Kal-El on the planet Krypton and, as an infant, was rocketed to Earth by his scientist father, Jor-El, moments before Krypton exploded. The rocket landed on Earth outside the town of Smallville, where young Kal-El was discovered and adopted by the amiable Jonathan and Martha Kent. As he grew, he discovered that he possessed powers far beyond those of mortal men and women, and resolves to use them to help others. When not fighting the forces of evil as Superman, he lives among humanity as Clark Kent, a "mild-mannered reporter" for the Daily Planet. Clark works alongside reporter Lois Lane, with whom he is romantically involved. The character's adventures are today published in a number of comic books.

(SG1: "Unending")
  • The Famous Studios cartoon short She-Sick Sailors from 1944 has Olive Oyl enamored with the Superman character, to the point that she rejects Popeye's attention. Bluto takes advantage of this by disguising as the superhero, shaving his beard and donning Superman's red-and-blue costume. He uses tricks to pass himself as Superman, such as "stopping" a train at the station and employing a bullet-proof vest in order to withstand machine-gun fire. Popeye turns into a superhero version of himself upon eating his spinach, enabling him to defeat the false Superman and save the endangered Olive. Olive is seen actually reading Superman comics in the beginning, with her house adorned with Superman posters and memorabilia.

  • Superman is a comic book superhero, originally created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, and published by DC Comics. Created in 1932, and rejected by a number of publishers, the character first appeared in Action Comics #1 (June 1938). With a premise that taps into adolescent fantasy, Superman is born Kal-El on the alien planet Krypton, before being rocketed to Earth as an infant by his scientist father moments before the planet's destruction. Adopted and raised by a Kansas farmer and his wife, the child is raised as "Clark Kent", and imbued with a strong moral compass. Upon reaching maturity the character develops superhuman abilities, resolving to use these for the benefit of humanity. With the success of his adventures, Superman helped to create the superhero genre and establish its primacy within the American comic book. Whilst referred to less flatteringly as "the big blue Boy Scout" by some of his fellow superheroes, Superman is hailed as "The Man of Steel," "The Man of Tomorrow," and "The Last Son of Krypton," by the general public within the comics. As Clark Kent, Superman lives among humans as a "mild-mannered reporter" for the Metropolis newspaper The Daily Planet (The Daily Star in the early stories). Here he works alongside reporter Lois Lane, with whom he is romantically linked. This relationship has been consummated by marriage on numerous occasions across varying media, and the union is now firmly established within the current mainstream comics continuity. The character's cast, powers and trappings have slowly expanded throughout the years. Superman's backstory was altered to allow for adventures as Superboy, and other survivors of Krypton were discovered, including Supergirl and Krypto the Superdog. In addition, Superman has been licensed and adapted into a variety of media, from radio to television and film. The motion picture Superman Returns was released in 2006, with a performance at the international box office which exceeded expectations. The character has been revamped and updated, most recently in 1986. John Byrne recreated the character, reducing Superman's powers and erasing several characters from the canon in a move which attracted media attention. Press coverage was again garnered in the 1990s with The Death of Superman, a storyline which saw the character briefly killed. Superman has also held fascination for scholars, with cultural theorists, commentators and critics alike exploring the character's impact and role in America and the wider world. Umberto Eco discussed the mythic qualities of the character in the early 1960s, and Larry Niven has pondered the implications of a sexual relationship the character might enjoy with Lois Lane. The character's ownership has often been the subject of dispute, with Siegel and Shuster twice suing for the return of legal ownership. The copyright is again currently in dispute, with changes in copyright law allowing Siegel's wife and daughter to claim a share of the copyright, a move DC parent company Warner Bros. disputes.

  • Superman is a fictional DC Comics superhero. In 2003, Colonel Jack O'Neill asked the People of P3X-367 if anyone of them was "more powerful than a locomotive." This comes from the phrase "faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound" that was used to describe Superman. (SG1: "Metamorphosis") When trying to protect Atlantis from the Lantean storm in 2004, Dr. Rodney McKay told Major John Sheppard that he is not Superman. (SGA: "The Storm") When trapped in a Time dilation field on the Odyssey in 2007, Lt. Colonel Cameron Mitchell said "See what we need is, we need Superman to fly around the ship really, really fast." (SG1: "Unending")
  • Superman is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. He was created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster and first appeared in Action Comics #1 (cover-dated June 1938) and subsequently appeared in various radio serials, newspaper strips, television programs, films, and video games. With this success, Superman helped to create the superhero genre and establish its primacy within the American comic book. Superman's appearance is distinctive and iconic; he usually wears a blue costume, red cape, and stylized red-and-yellow "S" shield-shaped on his chest. This shield is used in a myriad of media to symbolize the character. The origin story of Superman relates that he was born Kal-El of House of El on the planet Krypton, before being rocketed to Earth as an infant by his scientist father Jor-El, moments before Krypton's destruction. Discovered and adopted by a Kansas farmer and his wife, the child is raised as Clark Kent and imbued with a strong moral compass. Very early on he started to display various superhuman abilities, which, upon reaching maturity, he resolved to use for the benefit of humanity through a secret "Superman" identity. Superman resides and operates in the fictional American city of Metropolis. As Clark Kent, he is a journalist for the Daily Planet, a Metropolis newspaper. Superman's love interest is generally Lois Lane, and his archenemy is supervillain Lex Luthor. He is typically a member of the Justice League and close ally of Batman and Wonder Woman. Like other characters in the DC Universe, several alternate versions of Superman have been depicted over the years. Superman is widely considered an American cultural icon. He has fascinated scholars, with cultural theorists, commentators, and critics alike exploring the character's impact and role in the United States and worldwide. The character's ownership has often been the subject of dispute, with Siegel and Shuster twice suing for the return of rights. The character has been adapted extensively and portrayed in radio drama, film, television, theatre and video game by the following actors: Ray Middleton, Bob Holiday, Dean Cain, Tom Welling, George Reeves, Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh, Henry Cavill, Bud Collyer, Danny Dark, Tim Daly, and George Newbern.
  • Kal-El/Superman is a cool superhero from DC comics and also the first major superhero. He has appeared in many comics, TV shows, and movies and is widely recognized as one of the most iconic heroes of all time.
  • Superman is the premier superhero in the DC Universe and arguably the first superhero ever created in fiction.
  • Superman is a hero on the planet Earth who has occasionally been drawn into the affairs of Eternia, where he has sided with He-Man against the evil forces of Skeletor. He is known by reputation on Eternia, by way of the stories told by the Earth woman Queen Marlena. The last son of the planet Krypton, Superman was born Kal-El shortly before his homeworld's destruction, and sent to Earth in a spacecraft by his parents. Raised by Earth people as Clark Kent, he developed superhuman abilities in his new environment, and decided to use his powers in the fight for good. Although he lives his normal life posing as a mild-mannered human journalist, he employs his Superman alter ego whenever he must defend his adopted homeworld against the forces of evil. Superman possesses many super powers, due to the differences in solar radiation and gravitational pull between Earth and Krypton. Among the heroes of Earth, he is considered one of the most powerful. Although Superman may well be stronger than He-Man, he has no defense against supernatural forces--a vulnerability that is particularly dangerous in Eternia.
  • Superman is, according to Stephen Colbert, the best superhero ever. Superman is quite possibly the smartest superhero ever, disguising himself as the farthest thing from a hero... a journalist. Most people believe Superman stands for "Truth, Justice and the American Way," but in factiness, it's "Truthiness, Justicity and the Badass American Way." Of course, this only applies to the version of Superman in the Silver Age. Golden Age Superman was a liberal who beat up poor buisnessmen who just wanted to save money by building super-death rays! Superman is also known to have another, better, Alter Ego: Stephen Colbert!
  • When Malcolm Reed and Trip Tucker were waiting for rescue in their disabled shuttlepod, Reed told Tucker that North Americans must read nothing but comic books. Tucker replied that Superman was "laced with metaphor. Subtext layered on subtext." • Superman is a fictional character, a comic book superhero widely considered to be an American cultural icon. Created by American writer Jerry Siegel and Canadian-born artist Joe Shuster in 1932 while both were living in Cleveland, Ohio, and sold to Detective Comics, Inc. in 1938, the character first appeared in Action Comics #1 (June 30, 1938) and subsequently appeared in various radio serials, television programs, films, newspaper strips, and video games. With the success of his adventures, Superman helped to create the superhero genre and establish its primacy within the American comic book. The character's appearance is distinctive and iconic: a blue, red and yellow costume, complete with cape, with a stylized "S" shield on his chest. This shield is now typically used across media to symbolize the character. The original story of Superman relates that he was born Kal-El on the planet Krypton, before being rocketed to Earth as an infant by his scientist father Jor-El, moments before Krypton's destruction. Discovered and adopted by a Kansas farmer and his wife, the child is raised as Clark Kent and imbued with a strong moral compass. Very early he started to display superhuman abilities, which upon reaching maturity he resolved to use for the benefit of humanity. While referred to less than flatteringly as "the big blue Boy Scout" by some of his fellow superheroes, Superman is hailed as "The Man of Steel", "The Man of Tomorrow", and "The Last Son of Krypton" by the general public within the comics. As Clark Kent, Superman lives among humans as a "mild-mannered reporter" for the Metropolis newspaper Daily Planet (Daily Star in the earliest stories). There he works alongside reporter Lois Lane, with whom he is romantically linked. This relationship has been consummated by marriage on numerous occasions across various media, and this union is now firmly established within mainstream comics' continuity. DC Comics/Warner Bros. slowly expanded the character's supporting cast, powers, and trappings throughout the years. Superman's backstory was altered to allow for adventures as Superboy, and other survivors of Krypton were created, including Supergirl and Krypto the Superdog. In addition, Superman has been licensed and adapted into a variety of media, from radio to television and film, perhaps most notably portrayed by Christopher Reeve in Richard Donner's Superman: The Movie in 1978, which garnered critical praise and became Warner Bros.' most successful feature film of its time. The motion picture Superman Returns was released in 2006, with a performance at the international box office which exceeded expectations. In the seven decades since Superman's debut, the character has been revamped and updated several times. A significant overhaul occurred in 1986, when John Byrne revamped and "retconned" the character, reducing Superman's powers and erasing several characters from the canon, in a move that attracted media attention. Press coverage was again garnered by DC Comics in the 1990s with The Death of Superman, a storyline which saw the character killed and later restored to life. Superman has fascinated scholars, with cultural theorists, commentators, and critics alike exploring the character's impact and role in the United States and the rest of the world. The copyright is again currently in dispute, with changes in copyright law allowing Siegel's wife and daughter to claim a share of the copyright, a move DC parent company Warner Bros. disputes.

He grew up in Smallville and moved to Metropolis to work at the Daily Planet where his relationship with Lois Lane grew. He always helps out those in danger as Superman and has fought many enemies with his most common enemy being Lex Luthor.

  • In "A Hero Sits Next Door", he watches Peter Griffin play strip poker with Wonder Woman. He makes an appearance in Hell in "Holy Crap", where Peter believes he is going. He explains that he's in Hell because he killed a hooker after she made a crack about him being faster than a speeding bullet. Here, he was voiced by Patrick Warburton. In Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story, Superman flies by Wonder Woman's invisible plane and starts hitting on her, but in an awkward moment she's in the jet's bathroom. In "Blind Ambition", Peter recalls a time when he lived at the Fortress of Solitude when Superman and the Justice League are planning their next move. In a battle at the Fortress in "The Cleveland-Loretta Quagmire", Superman pulls the "S" off of his chest and throws it at a villain in a highly ineffective attack. In "Lois Kills Stewie", it is revealed that Consuela cleans the Fortress of Solitude as Superman's maid. He stars in Superman V: The Broken Condom in "Padre de Familia", where he breaks up with girlfriend Lois Lane after discovering via X-ray vision that she's pregnant. His voice is heard in Superman IV: The Quest For Peace in a "420" cutaway when Peter goes to see the film after he mentions he likes it when people say the movie's title within the film. Dean Cain, who played the role in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, is wearing a Superman shirt while seeking attention in "Peter's Daughter". Superman appears when Peter and the guys watch The Superfriends Accountant in "Grumpy Old Man". Here, he is voiced by D. C. Douglas. In "Ratings Guy", when he finds he doesn't have enough pull to affect national shows, Peter bemoans the fact that he'll never see an episode of Superman where Clark Kent and Lois Lane get together. Carter Pewterschmidt had planned to bomb a fault line to cause an earthquake and destroy half of Quahog as part of a land deal, a plot that Carl recognizes as being from the 1978 film Superman, in "12 and a Half Angry Men". He appears as Clark Kent in "The Most Interesting Man in the World", in which he gives women breast cancer with his x-ray vision. When Quagmire mentions that Karen Griffin is crazy strong like Superman in "Peter's Sister", a cutaway shows Superman and a pair of police officers examining a body of a woman with the top of her head blown off. One of the officers mentions the similarity to another case of three men who died the same way in a public bathroom, although Superman can only declare the cases "unsolvable." When General Zod turns up at Quagmire's new apartment when he moves out of the neighborhood in "Hot Pocket-Dial", Cleveland notes that 'The guy from Superman is also there'. Peter successfully imitates Superman by taking off his glasses to hide from Carter Pewterschmidt in "Carter and Tricia".

  • Superman, birth name Kal-El and adopted name Clark Kent, was a Kryptonian and the premiere hero on Earth, often considered the first among equals of the founding members of the Justice League. He is among the many superheroes summoned by the Council of Royals to help fight against the Black Marauder's Legion of Villains.
  • Also known as the Man of Steel or the Last Son of Krypton, Superman is a longstanding superhero from the DC continuum originally created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. He is easily one of the most powerful superheroes in that continuum, possessing a wide variety of superpowers including super-strength, invulnerability, heat vision, ice breath, and flight among others. Originally, his powers were limited to super-strength, super-senses, and super-control of his muscles, but sometime in the Silver Age of comics, superpowers just got piled onto him, resulting in the flying, super-breathing hero we know today. After the Silver Age, a lot of ridiculous powers were dropped, such as wall-repairing vision, syrup-cleaning breakdancing, and super knitting. Originally from the planet of Krypton (and originally named Kal-El), Superman was sent to Earth by his father just before that world exploded, hence his title as the Last Son of Krypton. He was discovered on Earth by a Kansas farmer and his wife, who adopted him and named him Clark Kent. Superman is a sworn upholder of truth and justice for all, though he is based, as it were, in the American city of Metropolis. He has been described by many as the "Boy Scout" superhero due to his solid moral standards and role as protector of all on Earth regardless of nationality, race, or creed. If he is seen breaking his own moral codes, it is either a badfic and he is a character replacement, or it is the Silver Age and everybody, everything, and every plot is kind of dumb. He has only three weaknesses: magic, the radiation of a red sun, and the radioactive element known as kryptonite. Because it is Superman's only mundane weakness, that naturally means that kryptonite is ridiculously common in the DC universe to give Superman a challenge in-plot. His powers have been reduced many times in canon to give him a challenge—at the height of the Silver Age he was nearly omnipotent. In the Justice League Unlimited TV show, Superman eventually revealed that he virtually never used his full power because he was afraid that he'd inadvertently cause massive property damage and loss of life if he did. Superman has historically had a few love interests: Lois Lane, Lana Lang, and some mermaid. Don't ask, it was (again) the Silver Age and dumb. He is regarded by some as a Canon Stu, but by others as a mythological character like Hercules or Paul Bunyan. In some ways, he established the modern image of superheroes in general, and many writers play with the idea of having powers such as his. When he's written well, he's a great symbol of a single individual's power to help. When he's written poorly, he becomes an illogical doofus.

  • Superman (sometimes known as Clark Kent or Kal-El, occasionally misspelled as Stupidman) is an alien from another planet, and he is one of the most powerful beings in the world. Kal-El was born on a planet known as Krypton. He was raised by his green parents. But then, some jerk decided to blow up Krypton. Kal-El was one of the one hundred babies sent by rocket to avoid this tragic fate. The rocket was set for a collision course with Mars. Kal-El said "SEE YOU LATER LOSERS!" and jumped out the rocket window. The other Kryptonian babies just shrugged and landed the rocket on Mars. Kal-El flew into Earth, but was not harmed, because he was the chosen one. Some old people found him, and named him Clark. He grew up to be a hero called Stupidma... er... Superman. He is now a god who can do whatever he wants. His only weakness is Kryptonite. Taxes was one of his weaknesses, but he beat up the tax collectors. Superman hates Lex Luthor more than anyone else, but only because he is jealous of Lex. Lex is jealous of Superman. They both hate each other. That is why they are always shooting Energy Blasts at each other. Superman died when he was shot by a kryptonite bullet by Lex Luthor, about five minutes ago. Wait... the bullet was plastic! Superman is getting up! Now he's... is Lex's face supposed to look like that? I don't think faces are supposed to look like that.
  • Superman (real name Clark Kent on Earth and Kal-El on Krypton), also known as "The Man of Steel" and "The Man of Tomorrow," is a Kryptonian-American superhero based out of Metropolis. He is widely considered to be the most influential character of the DC Universe, making up one-fourth of the "Trinity" (along with Batman and Wonder Woman) and according to modern continuity he is a founding member of the Justice League of America. As his alter-ego, the mild-mannered Kent, he is a journalist for the Daily Planet and is married to star colleague Lois Lane. His first appearance in Metropolis, saving the Constitution space plane, sparked what is considered to be the "modern heroic age" of his Earth, and he has since been involved in nearly all of its most noteworthy events, including all three "Crises." He was briefly presumed dead after a catastrophic battle with Doomsday, and disappeared after losing his powers following Infinite Crisis. He also was a key player in the ousting of President Lex Luthor. As one of the most powerful beings in the DCU, he possesses an array of powers including near-invulnerability, flight, super-speed, and heightened senses like super-hearing and X-ray vision. His most notable enemies are media mogul Luthor, the super-intelligent Brainiac, the kryptonite-wielding Metallo, and fellow Kryptonian survivor General Zod. Over the years he has gained sidekicks like Supergirl and the late Superboy.

Charles Tucker III was a big fan of Superman, although Malcolm Reed was less impressed. (ENT episode: "Shuttlepod One") Superman was mentioned alongside Horatio Hornblower and Cyrus Centauri by Piper in 2269. (TOS - Fortunes of War novel: Battlestations!) Geordi La Forge mentioned to Doctor Beverly Crusher in 2364 that he felt like his superiors were consistently expecting him to look through walls for them, as if he were Superman. (TNG novel: Ghost Ship) The terms "superman" (lower case "s") or "genetic superman" are also commonly-used in referring to augments. (TOS episode & Star Trek 2 novelization: Space Seed) An interesting paradox exists, in that characters from the Star Trek universe have crossed over, through a time-distortion, into the reality of Superman's future. There is currently no explanation how the "real" Clark Kent of that reality could be a fictional character in another reality. DC Comics also published Star Trek comics from 1984 to 1995.

As a youth growing up in Smallville, Clark encountered Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl and Chameleon Boy prior to discovering the full extent of his powers. During this incident, he aided the trio in stopping Brainiac who had travelled back in time from the 30th century to kill Clark before he could become Superman. After defeating Brainiac, the trio returned to their time, but not before Saturn Girl removed all memory of the incident from his mind. Nevertheless, the incident depicted all the strength and courage Clark would imbue as Superman. Some time later, Clark began to discover his powers, and was sometimes frustrated by his need to hide them from the public. His parents revealed to him the spaceship, as well as a hologram, that arrived with him when he first came to Earth. Clark was told of the destruction of his planet and briefly met his real mother and father.

  • Superman is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. He was created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster in 1933; later, in 1938, the character was sold to Detective Comics, Inc. (later DC Comics).[2][3] Superman first appeared in Action Comics #1 (June 1938) and subsequently appeared in various radio serials, newspaper strips, television programs, films, and video games. With this success, Superman helped to create the superhero genre and establish its primacy within the American comic book.[4] Superman's appearance is distinctive and iconic; he usually wears a blue costume, red cape, and stylized red-and-yellow "S" shield on his chest.[5][6][7] This shield is used in a myriad of media to symbolize the character.[8] The origin story of Superman relates that he was born Kal-El on the planet Krypton, before being rocketed to Earth as an infant by his scientist father Jor-El, moments before Krypton's destruction. Discovered and adopted by a Kansas farmer and his wife, the child is raised as Clark Kent and imbued with a strong moral compass. Very early on he started to display various superhuman abilities, which, upon reaching maturity, he resolved to use for the benefit of humanity through a secret "Superman" identity . Superman resides and operates in the fictional American city of Metropolis. As Clark Kent, he is a journalist for the Daily Planet, a Metropolis newspaper. Superman's love interest is generally Lois Lane, and his archenemy is supervillain Lex Luthor. Like other characters in the DC Universe, several alternative versions of Superman have been produced.
