  • A troglodyte is a cave-dweller. The term is commonly associated with "cave men," i.e. Neanderthals or early humans. The name has been used for a number of fantasy races with diverse characteristics.
  • Troglodytes were reptilian humanoids, shorter than a human, with spindly but muscular arms and squat legs. They also had long, slender tails. The stench of an angry or frightened troglodyte was so foul that it sickened all living creatures nearby, even after the troglodyte died.
  • The Troglodyte is an enemy in Grandia II. It can be found in the inside the Durham Cave. Troglodytes have the ability to cast Sleep Spawn.
  • Troglodyte is an enemy in Deliverance.
  • Troglodytes are a barbaric and vicious underground-dwelling humanoid race. They are most common in Nar-Voth and are favored slaves for many of the other races of the Darklands.
  • A reptilian race said to be descended from the dragons, the troglodytes inhabit the jungles of Q'barra. Hated even by the other reptilian races, the dragonborn, the kobolds, and the lizardfolk, the troglodytes live beneath the ground, usually in the ruins of the fallen citadels from the Age of Demons.

They are slender, bipedal humanoids that reach a height of about 1.6 meters. Their heads are large compared to their bodies, and their arms are extremely long. They are totally hairless and have a pallid white skin with no external genitalia. Their eyes are huge in proportion to their heads, much like an owl. The slang word "trog", a racial expletive used against Orks and Trolls, is presumably derived from this creature's name.

They are extremely stupid and, therefore, do not rise to positions of leadership within Lizardmen communities. They have no appreciation of tactics in a battle and are simply pointed at the enemy and told to kill. Frequently, they even fail to notice when an opponent is dead, mindlessly continuing to beat and rip a corpse for some time after it has ceased to put up any resistance. • Troglodytes are revolting lizard creatures as evil as the foulest of demons. They are very warlike and savor the taste of their enemies - especially if they happen to be humanoids. Troglodytes are not especially intelligent, but their ferocity and natural cunning more than compensate for this. They often launch bloody raids against humanoid settlements or ambush caravans in warm, wet climates. They guard their lairs aggressively, lashing out against anyone who comes too near. A troglodyte stands about 5 feet tall and weighs around 150 pounds. Troglodytes speak Draconic.

They are totally hairless and have a pallid white skin with no external genitalia. Their eyes are huge in proportion to their heads, much like an owl. Troglodytes are omnivores, typically subsisting on lichen and moss growing in their natural cave environment. They occasionally practice in cannibalism, but some paranaturalist studies have found this practice to be of social significance rather than sustenance. They live in loose-knit bands of about 50 individuals. They have been known to use primitive tools and rudimentary language. Some troglodytes have produced "cave art", similar to paintings made by prehistoric man. The sentience of the troglodyte is hotly debated among paranaturalists. The slang word "trog", a racial expletive used against Orks and Trolls, is presumably derived from this creature's name.

Tribes are ruled by the largest and fiercest member, with sub-chieftains made out of those who have distinguished themselves in battle. Troglodytes like to lair near humanoid settlements for easy prey. They raid on moonless nights when their darkvision and colouration are most effectiveness. Troglodytes prize steel above all else. Although individuals usually hold no individual wealth, a lair may contain valuable items casually discarded, pushed into corners, or mixed in with refuse.

  • Troglodyte (lit. "cave-goer") is a culturally-charged collective term for hominin species, some of which are the direct ancestors of modern humans or have at least contributed to the human gene pool, while others went extinct in the depth of prehistory, or even in quite recent times (by planetary standards). Not all such hominin species actually lived in caves (in fact, caves were never a dominant or even numerically significant abode of any of the species ancestral to modern humans - they are far too uncommon to serve as the habitation for a viable population size, especially as much of the population was not confined to Europe (where caves are relatively common), but to Africa and the Middle East, where they are much rarer and such as are found are often the lair of predatory animals, making them inhospitable to groups of humans trying to settle down. Nonetheless, some species and groups of people did predominantly live in caves, enabled by unique features of biology or society to make use not only of the few small cave entrances, but also of the much deeper reaches of most caves, giving them an underground habitat well capable of housing a large population. In either case, the term "troglodyte" has come to mean any hominin who has lived on Terra before the onset of the neolithic in their subpopulation, although that definition has been challenged by the multitude of present-day cultures, albeit marginal, who have never developed the hallmarks of "neolithic" culture and instead have developed along alternative paths (nomads) or have been "arrested" on a pre-neolithic level and yet are not included in the definition of a troglodyte as commonly used (such as the tribes of Papua, or the natives of the Amazonas) or have surpassed the paleolithic stage technologically, even if never developing the technologies that define the neolithic, due to circumstances of environment (such as the eskimo). The world's prehistory was fraught with many dangers that in our modern time have retreated to the farthest corners of the wilderness and the deepest abysses of the ocean. Due to the influence of various forces, lesser or greater, upon early man, it is possible not all branches of the hominin tree were in fact of natural origin. There are, of course, a variety of humanoid species, but not all of them share but the remotest ancestry with humans.
