The Klingon Empire saw the civilian uprising as the Dominion plot to conquer Cardassia an invaded. The Klingon invasion was stopped when the senior staff of Deep Space Nine and Cardassian chief of Staff Gul Dukat got the Detapa Council to Deep Space Nine. In 2373, Gul Dukat joined the Dominion, took over the Cardassian Union and joined the Dominion. In the 2 year long Dominion War which lasted from mid 2373-late 2375. The Cardassians lost approximately 75% of their fleet and over 1 billion lives, 800 million of which were killed by the Jem'Hadar as reprisals against the Cardassian Rebellion. Currently, the Cardassian Union is undergoing a process of reconstruction along with the other powers after the war.
