| abstract | - The Clave is the collective name for the political body made up of all active Shadowhunters. The Clave keeps and interprets the Law, and makes decisions about the guidance of the Nephilim through history as it unfolds and decides on important matters that affect the Nephilim.
- The Clave were the corrupted Council of Lords during the era of the Sunbane. Between the end of The Power That Preserves and the start of the Sunbane, a Raver possessed the High Lord through which Lord Foul corrupted the Council of Lords into the Clave, twisting their love of the land into Despite. The Clave sacrificed blood to the Banefire in Revelstone, believing that the sacrifices weakened the Sunbane, although in fact it did the opposite. By the time Thomas Covenant returns to the land at the beginning of the Second Chronicles, the Clave was presided over by a man named Gibbon, who turned out to be possessed by the Raver Sheol.
