| Description | - Mephisto is an extra-dimensional demon whose origin is unknown. He rules a fiery pocket dimension that he calls "Hell" or "Hades" although it is neither the hell of the Christian religion nor the Hades ruled by Pluto, the Olympian god of the dead. Mephisto calls his extra-dimensional realm "hell" in order to exploit Earth human beings' belief in a single being of absolute evil, who is often referred to as Satan, who rules such a realm.
Mephisto resembles the traditional visual conception of the devil. . He also allows himself to be called names that human beings give to their conceptions of devils, such as Mephisto, a shortened form of Mephistopheles, the name given to the devil in the Faust legends. Indeed, Mephisto has allowed people to believe him to be Satan himself. However, Mephisto is not the Biblical Satan, nor is he the actual devil such as the one depicted by Judaism and Christianity.

It is unclear when they stopped work on it; rumors continued to circulate for a number of years afterwards. A commenter to the Mephisto review at Vintage Synth Explorer claims to have contacted Vermona in 2012 and was told that they were no longer working on it at that time. It is known that Vermona struggled to keep the build cost to a reasonable value; some reports in the 2004 timeframe had the suggested list price being at $7000 US, which would have been far higher than the more capable Alesis Andromeda, not to mention the inexpensive virtual analog synths that were beginning to appear at the time. Possibly, with the all-discrete audio circuitry and the motorized knobs, Vermona was unable to get the cost down enough to make it marketable.

Danko's brother Dormammu left home at an early age, leaving Danko to live alone with his mother. Not long after Dormammu's departure, Danko's mother passed away. She left everything she had to him in her will. This enabled Danko to keep on living in reasonable conditions, despite being alone. He would spend most of his teenage years alone, right up until the age of 20, before he was contacted by his brother after so many years of silence. Dormammu persuaded Danko to leave his home, and come work with him for the "Castrato Corporation". Little did Danko know, that the job offer was merely a ploy, and Danko was actually captured upon arrival, and was held in Castrato Corps Engineering Centre and was then subject to biological weaponry testing. After two years of torture, Danko somehow escaped; yet how he did so has forever been unknown. Upon escaping, Danko got into the wrestling industry, and crowned himself "Mephisto", and has be primarily known as that ever since. However, a year later, Dormammu ordered for Mephisto to be tracked down, and achieved in doing so. He tried to reconcile with his brother; knowing that Mephisto had suffered ill effects due to the torture, and couldn't fully remember what had happened. Despite his best attempts, Dormammu failed to win over Mephisto, and piece by piece, Mephisto rebuilt his memory, and slowly began to remember everything. Just at the time everything came flooding back however, Dormammu was accidently killed during a heated conversation, which also saw his Engineering Centre go up in flames. Danko's long road of recovery, and journey to the truth, was seemingly dropped in an instant. However, upon attending Dormammu's funeral, Mephisto came into contact with Adrian Osten, owner of Castrato Corp's rivaling company, Incognito Industries. Adrian would slowly get inside Mephisto's head, feeding him with information regarding his brother, as well as further angering Mephisto regarding his feelings towards Castrato Corp in general. This anger grew into sheer hatred, causing Mephisto to embark on a new, dark and hellish adventure; the life of a hitman. He would slowly but surely pick off the remaining Castrato Corp board members, one by one. Only one would survive, a certain Scott Warren. This man would prove to be a huge thorn in Mephisto's side, as he refused to give in as Mephisto desperately tried to silence him. The two would come to a showdown at the ruins of Castrato Corp's Engineering Centre, but after an unbelievable twist, Adrian Osten betrayed Mephisto, by attacking him from behind, and drugging him, hoping to wipe out Mephisto's memory of all their negotiations and missions that Osten sent him on. His motives for this were soon revealed, as Adrian wanted to take no risks in a full take over of Castrato Corp's remaining shares, and was paying Warren to effectively "go away". With Mephisto unable to remember anything of the "amendment" killings Adrian had sent him on, it seemed as if he had succeeded. Unfortunately for Adrian, strange developments evovled. Mephisto found a book, entitled "The Book of Mephistopheles". The book documented his life in third person, and despite his disbelief that the book was magic, and convincing himself that somebody else had wrote it, he couldn't deny the facts presented to him; as the book wrote itself whilst in his very possession. Upon reading the whole book, Mephisto came to realize just what Warren and Adrian had done, and with the help of Parchezzi; the man responsible for his brothers fatal accident, he put an end to the pair of them, killing them in the same night. This brought Parchezzi and Mephisto closer, and the duo reconciled over Dormammu's death, before Parchezzi left to pursue other adventures in his life. The killing didn't stop there, however. Determined to put Castrato Corp, Incognito Industries and everything else behind him, Mephisto tried to lay low for a while, and rebuild his life in the town of Naperville with his girlfriend Christina Brook. Unfortunately for him, his crimes caught up with him, and the police came calling for him, in investigation of the Amendment killings. The police couldn't quite get to him though, as they were beaten to it by a company known as the International Contract Agency; an assassins club, forged from blood money. They gave Mephisto an offer he couldn't refuse; should he perform a few high profile hits for them, they would erase his criminal records, and let him move on in life, and finally put his actions behind him. Mephisto did just as he was asked, and performed every hit asked of him successfully. Having fulfilled his end of the bargain, foiling a huge terrorist plot in the process, Mephisto had his slate wiped clean, and met up with the I.C.A boss, Jason Cain, to discuss his future. The two struck an agreement, and Mephisto moved over to Paris, France, where he is now working for a 'tea' company.
- Mephisto was a scientist obsessed with obtaining power. After years of research, he believed he had discovered a “black magic formula” that would make him "invincible." He claimed he would sell his soul for power. He teamed up with Nazi fifth columnists in an effort to spread chaos and terror throughout the world so that he could rule men with the scepter of fear. He later freed inmates at a prison, to obtain men for his war against America. He was opposed by Doc Strange. His base of operations was the complex sewer system which he was intimately familiar with.
- Mephisto (real name unknown) was a homeless man and the leader of the underground homeless community called Route 666. He was a tall man with long gray hair. He wore dated 70s-vintage clothes with hippie accessories including a Navajo squash blossom necklace. Mephisto was a Vietnam veteran, an infantryman with the I-Corps of the Seventh Infantry. Mephisto's territory included several areas under and alongside Central Park. He and his lieutenants ruled and protected the tunnels and kept their people safe from disturbances by the police and the occasional predation of other homeless. Prior to the events of Reliquary, several of his community members had been brutally killed when they ventured too far from the community. Through his information network, Mephisto learned that a new group of homeless, the Wrinklers, had moved into a far-flung corner of the underground known as the "Devil's Attic". It was rumored that the Wrinklers were sub-human monsters and were responsible for the killings. Mephisto sent a runner to contact journalist Bill Smithback, who had written an article about the murder of Pamela Wisher in the New York Post. The runner met Smithback in a men's room at Penn Station and led him into the tunnels. Smithback refused to go very far underground, but he spoke to Mephisto through a grate in the floor. Mephisto called Smithback "Scriblerian", a reference to the writings of Alexander Pope. He told Smithback about the underground killings and Smithback duly published the article. Later, Special Agent Aloysius Pendergast and Lieutenant Vincent D'Agosta visited Mephisto in the Route 666 Community. Posing as the leader of another homeless community and his lieutenant, the two men shared a meal of roasted rat ("track rabbit") and cheap wine with Mephisto. Mephisto told them about the Wrinklers and the Devil's Attic, and Pendergast resolved to find out all he could about the fabled area. Pendergast identified the Devil's Attic as the deep and barely-accessible Astor Tunnels, built in the late 19th century for a private rail network accessible only to New York's wealthiest families. He made several trips down and discovered that the tunnels were indeed the home of the Wrinklers, and they were something other than ordinary humans. Later, Mephisto and his community were rousted from Route 666 by the New York Police Department, in preparation for flooding the entire area in an attempt to drown the Wrinklers. Pendergast dragooned Mephisto to lead him and D'Agosta down into the Astor Tunnels to detonate explosives and prevent the Wrinklers from escaping. Mephisto agreed, but only on the condition that no matter the outcome of the evening, Pendergast would personally intervene for the future safety of the Route 666 community. Mephisto, Pendergast and D'Agosta descended into the tunnels, and were later joined by Dr. Margo Green and Bill Smithback. They found the Wrinklers in the Astor Tunnels and were attacked and captured. Fortunately, the arrival of a police diver with heavy weapons created a moment of confusion. Mephisto detonated a Claymore antipersonnel which he had stolen from an FBI weapons locker. The explosion killed Mephisto and dozens of Wrinklers and allowed the the rest of the group to to escape and detonate the roof of the tunnels, trapping the Wrinklers inside. Just prior to his death, Mephisto gave Margo Green an envelope and asked her to deliver it for him. The envelope later became waterlogged and too smudged to read, but Margo opened it and and found it contained a photograph of a young boy in a train engineer's cap.
- Mephisto (December 12, 1968), whose birth name is unknown, is a Mexican professional wrestler or Luchador currently working for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). Mephisto is the son of Luchador Astro Rey/Kahoz and has previously worked both as Astro Rey Jr. and Kahoz Jr. but has been most successful as Mephisto. Since adopting the Mephisto gimmick he has been associated with the group Los Infernales especially Averno who has been his regular tag team partner for years. Mephisto and Averno are considered one of the top permanent teams in Mexico since the turn of the century. Mephisto is the current holder of the NWA World Welterweight Championship.

A Greek name meaning "Not Loving Light", Mephistopholes is the demon associated with the Faust legend. He was especially prominent in the versions by Marlowe and Goethe. His name was also mentioned in passing in Shakespeare's "Merry Wives of Windsor".
