The lighthouse can only be visited in Disc 2, after the Snowfield Hideout is explored. Because of this, the lighthouse is an optional sidequest, but a highly recommended one.

One day, Silas investigated the basement and discovered the Dagannoth dwelling there. He became obsessed with them, aspiring to become a Dagannoth himself. • On this island is a lighthouse, rotting from age and sea water, which is never lit. There is nothing inside it, save for a spiraling staircase that leads to the top, and an ancient, dusty bookcase. The case is filled with unmarked books, bound in ancient leather, save for a single space. The only problem is that you will be trapped for eternity in there with all the evil ever known or conceived, by man or god.
  • Another route of access is via a bridge, which is fixed during the quest. The bridge is located in the south-western part of the Fremennik Province. • A Light or Lighthouse comes in different colours and consists of different purity levels of Suspendium. The higher purity of suspendium used, the better the Light will float in areas of high shinsoo concentration. Most Lighthouses are made of low purity Suspendium, as high purity Suspendium is both expensive and difficult to handle. Like Armour Inventories, Arms Inventories, Pockets and so on, it has "visible" and "invisible" modes. Similarly, there are different shapes and Grades of Lighthouses. The Opera has a very high Grade and the Eyes of God likely has the highest Grade.
  • Lighthouses were first seen in Ultima V, when the lighthouses of Stormcrow, Greyhaven, Waveguide and Fogsbane were erected. However, these structures were not meant to last, and the collapse of the Underworld caused earthquakes that made the lighthouses topple and collapse. A lighthouse did exist on the Serpent Isle east of Fawn, but at the time of Ultima VII Part Two, the Teleport Storms exchanged it with the Royal Mint of Britannia, while simultaneously relocating the lighthouse to the middle of Britain.
  • "A lighthouse is a tower constructed on the shoreline, usually near a harbor or busy waterway. A powerful light sits atop the tower, making the structure visible to mariners for miles around. Lighthouses are built to mark the location of rocks and shoals or other hazards in the dead of night or midst of storms. Before the invention of radar, electricity, and global positioning systems, any vessel sailing near the shore ran a risk of running into such hazards and sinking. Naturally, sailors preferred to sail to destinations that had a method of marking these perils, so harbors with lighthouses flourished.

  • One early lighthouse was the Lighthouse of Alexandria, which was considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. (VOY: "11:59") Fort Point included a lighthouse, which could be seen sticking out over the fort as James T. Kirk and Spock passed near it in 1986. Later the duo passed another lighthouse. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home) This second lighthouse is located at the St. Francis Yacht Club. James Kirk had a set of pictures in his quarters aboard the USS Enterprise-A, including one of a lighthouse. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)

(TV: Horror of Fang Rock) In 2006, the Cynrogs used the Black Island lighthouse as their base while trying to recreate Balor. (PROSE: The Nightmare of Black Island)
  • In the 2250s Starfleet constructed Project Pharos, an interstellar lighthouse. The Pharos tower extended out of the atmosphere of the planet it was built on; Starfleet intended it to broadcast navigational data throughout the Marrat Nebula, and to log illegal traffic. In the year 2293, Captain Kirk had a picture of a lighthouse in his quarters aboard the USS Enterprise-A. (TOS movie: The Undiscovered Country)

You must wrestle the book closed and shove it back on the shelf, or the immortal evil contained within its pages shall break free, and you will be forced to take its place, with pages, ink and binding crafted from your own flesh and blood. However, if you bring the correct book to the island, and place it in the empty space, the lighthouse will light. As long as it is lit, the world shall enjoy an unending paradise, for all the evil in the world will be contained in the lighthouse. And while it is lit, nothing can go in or out. The only problem is that you will be trapped for eternity in there with all the evil ever known or conceived, by man or god. The only way to escape... is to douse the light.
  • The Lighthouse is built on the large island due north of Aquvy where Solaris is hidden. This lonely lighthouse is actually an elevator that leads down to a section of the Zeboim ruins. Down there the remaining gaps in Emeralda's history are filled in and her nanomachines suddenly react and she instantaneously matures from a little girl to a young woman in appearance. The lighthouse can only be visited in Disc 2, after the Snowfield Hideout is explored. Because of this, the lighthouse is an optional sidequest, but a highly recommended one.

(Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country) Alcatraz had a lighthouse, which in an alternate reality was destroyed when the USS Vengeance fell to the Earth in 2359. (Star Trek Into Darkness) During a discussion if the Fair Haven holoprogram should feature fog or not, Harry Kim suggested that the dangers of fog could be mitigated by placing a lighthouse in the simulation too. (VOY: "Fair Haven")
When the Starfleet engineers were drilling the foundations for Pharos they discovered vast quantities of dilithium - when the Klingon Kaaj learned of this he saw Starfleet's efforts an attempt to claim the open system and attacked the lighthouse. A battle between the IKS Varchas and USS Enterprise followed, and at a stalemate Captain Christopher Pike fired on the planet itself; destroying the contested planet and Pharos, but in the process starting a chain reaction in the dilithium that made the planet one huge beacon. (EV comic: "The Fires of Pharos") In the year 2293, Captain Kirk had a picture of a lighthouse in his quarters aboard the USS Enterprise-A. (TOS movie: The Undiscovered Country)

  • Months ago, Silas was appointed keeper of the Lighthouse by the council, but he became mentally unstable with time due to the prolonged isolation coupled with the chittering coming from the basement. One day, Silas investigated the basement and discovered the Dagannoth dwelling there. He became obsessed with them, aspiring to become a Dagannoth himself. In order to keep their existence a secret he built a massive iron door that could only be unlocked with four elemental runes, a sword and an arrow, all the while growing increasingly detached from his job and from reality. Eventually, Silas attempted to "join" the Dagannoth and disappeared, leaving the Lighthouse unattended. He was presumed dead and his nephew Jossik was forced to replace him as keeper. He was allowed to sell items free of taxes as compensation. Jossik was initially afraid of the local Fremennik, but he began to warm up to them as he saw his fears were mostly unfounded. The loneliness of his job began to affect him as it affected his uncle, when he met and befriended a local girl named Larrissa. During the following months, Jossik and Larrissa slowly fell in love with each other. Meanwhile, Jossik continued investigating his uncle's fate, growing increasingly concerned with the noises he heard at night. At some point he gave Larrissa a spare key to the Lighthouse, in case anything should happen to him. One night, Jossik heard a noise from beneath the Lighthouse. Knowing the front door was locked, he investigated the basement in search for intruders. When he got past the door his uncle built, Jossik was attacked by the Dagannoth and was injured badly enough that he could not escape on his own. Larrissa returned during the following days and realised that something was amiss when she noticed the light in the top floor had gone out. She asked a passing adventurer for help, who proceeded to retrieve her key from her cousin Gunnjorn in the Barbarian Outpost, fix the bridge separating the peninsula from the Fremennik Province and restore the Lighthouse to working order. After unlocking the basement door, the adventurer found Jossik, who warned them about the Dagannoth who attacked him. The adventurer then defeated the Dagannoth Mother, allowing Jossik to escape to the surface.

When a Lighthouse is in a larger form, it is also called a Light. This is because Light Bearers don't use smaller cubes for gathering information. It seems the Lighthouse itself can be "disconnected" or split into other components such as more cubes of varying sizes, screens, keyboard, etc.; disconnected cubes can be made to expand into the size of a room or larger. Two or more cubes can also be merged or "connected" by moving them physically which increases their size. Each cube is likely capable of gathering, recording and analysing information, which is transmitted to the "main cube" and possibly, other cubes. There is a misconception that Lighthouses can be destroyed easily. When a Lighthouse is knocked out, it has fallen outside of the Light Bearer's field of Shinsoo control and will fall to the ground. It is no longer in operating mode because its power source has been disconnected. If a strong pressure is applied to them they can be destroyed. Like Armour Inventories, Arms Inventories, Pockets and so on, it has "visible" and "invisible" modes. Similarly, there are different shapes and Grades of Lighthouses. The Opera has a very high Grade and the Eyes of God likely has the highest Grade.
  • Lighthouses can be found near ports and coastlines. They are used to warn ships of cliffs and rocks, and are very valuable to whoever controls them. Stormwind has a newer, larger model, and Auberdine has a Night Elf design.

In Ultima IX, new lighthouses had been erected near Britain, Buccaneer's Den, Trinsic and Moonglow. However, in three of the lighthouses, the light crystals were still missing, and the Avatar accepted the job offered by Hans in the lighthouse of Britain to find these, getting them polished and then installing them in the appropriate lighthouse.

(TV: Horror of Fang Rock) In the 1970s, Professor Tansbury conducted experiments in a disused lighthouse off the coast of Porthferiot, Cornwall, resulting in the creation of a giant lizard, the growth of which destroyed the lighthouse. (COMIC: The Tansbury Experiment) In 2006, the Cynrogs used the Black Island lighthouse as their base while trying to recreate Balor. • The Lighthouse is a building in the Civilization games. In Sid Meier's Civilization and Civilization II, it represents the Great Lighthouse (a wonder).
The original "lighthouse" was probably a bonfire lit by villagers to guide the village's fishing vessels back to harbor at night. Over time people realized that the fires could be seen much farther away if they were built atop platforms or towers. Further improvements were made as technology advanced; mirrors were built to direct the light in the desired directions; oil lamps replaced the more dangerous bonfires, which were in turn replaced by electric lamps."
