During an attempt to evacuate a Starfleet research team during 2361, Lieutenant William T. Riker, who was on temporary assignment aboard the USS Potemkin, was nearly trapped on the planet as the transport window began closing in on him. In order to get him out safely, a second confinement beam was used to strengthen his signal. When the transporter chief aboard the Potemkin got Riker to safety, the second beam was cut off, but rather than breaking down to nothing, the second beam, which apparently bounced off of the atmosphere's distortion field, was sent back to the surface, where an exact duplicate of Riker materialized back inside the facility where he lived for eight years until he was rescued in 2369. In that year, Commander Riker, then serving as first officer under Captain Jean-Luc In the 2360s, a Starfleet research station, Nervala station, was located on this planet. The crew was forced to evacuate in 2361 due to the changing conditions. The USS Potemkin arrived and sent an away team including Lieutenant William T. Riker. They were all successfully evacuated, however, unknown to them, a duplicate of Riker, Thomas Riker, was created by a transporter accident; Thomas remained on the planet while Will Riker made it back to the Potemkin. Thomas was rescued in 2369 by the USS Enterprise-D when it visited the planet to retrieve the data left by the research team. Kategorie:Planet During an attempt to evacuate a Starfleet research team during 2361, Lieutenant William T. In that year, Commander Riker, then serving as first officer under Captain Jean-Luc Picard on board the USS Enterprise-D, returned to the planet with an away team to collect the research that was left behind eight years ago. The double decided to go by the name Thomas Riker, making use of his middle name. (TNG episode: "Second Chances", DS9 episode: "Defiant") In 2371, Odo mentioned Nervala IV when informing Gul Skrain Dukat on the events leading up to the transporter accident. (TNG: "Second Chances") Planeta. (TNG: "Second Chances" ) In 2371, Odo mentioned Nervala IV when informing Gul Dukat on the events leading up to the transporter accident. (DS9: "Defiant") According to the script for "Second Chances" , the pronunciation for Nervala was "ner-VAHL-uh"; however, in the script for "Defiant" , the pronunciation for Nervala was "NER-va-la". The Star Trek Encyclopedia (4th ed., vol. 2, p. 74) classified Nervala IV as a class M planet.
