  • The first fish and vertebrates, were the ostracoderms, which appeared in the Cambrian Period, about 510 million years ago, and became extinct at the end of the Devonian, about 350 million years ago. Ostracoderms were jawless fishes found mainly in fresh water. They were covered with a bony armor or scales and were often less than 30 cm (1 ft) long. The ostracoderms are placed in the class Agnatha along with the living jawless fishes, the lampreys and hagfishes, which are believed to be descended from the ostracoderms.

  • In the original game, Tak is sent by Caged Juju to get a Rhino, Sheep, an Emu, and a Fish. All these animals are found around the area in Mountain Top. To get the fish out of the pond, Tak must throw a Coconut in the pond, which explodes the fish out. He can then pick it up and bring it to the Juju. In the second game, a fish is briefly seen. When Tak goes and gets Juju Candy for the Belly Juju, he comes back, and the Juju is cleaning himself with a fish, which he throws in a river.
  • An inventory item in Space Quest 6, the fish inexplicably follows Roger around the game, always ending up in his inventory (in progressing states of decay) despite all attempts to rid him of it. One theory suggests that Roger himself hung onto it because "it might come in useful." Even when it is actively taken away from him, someone always manages to get it back to him. "Hey! You forgot your fish!" The ultimate brain food its ultimately used to defeat Sharpei.

  • Fish were the rulers of the Earth until Humans found their weakness: roast beef sandwiches with Spam. Since then, many a fish are either eaten, captured as pets, or put on a humiliating display and forced to sing horrible songs. Jean-Luc Picard had a fish. Nobody's sure what happened to it. Noted martinet and herbert Edward Jellico may have had it broiled after he ordered the fish out of Picard's former ready room. Christopher Trout hates fish. We're not sure why.
  • The term fish applies to any aquatic vertebrates covered with scales. They arose in the Ordovician period, 450 million years ago, and continue to thrive into the present and beyond.
  • Fish are aquatic vertebrate animals that are typically ectothermic (previously cold-blooded), covered with scales, and equipped with two sets of paired fins and several unpaired fins. Fish are abundant in the sea and in fresh water, with species being known from mountain streams (e.g., char and gudgeon) as well as in the deepest depths of the ocean (e.g., gulpers and anglerfish). Fish are of tremendous importance as food for people around the world, either collected from the wild (see fishing) or farmed in much the same way as cattle or chickens (see aquaculture). Fish are also exploited for recreation, through angling and fishkeeping, and are commonly exhibited in public aquaria. Fish have an important role in many cultures through the ages, ranging as widely as deities and religious symbols to subjects of books and popular movies in various cultures.
  • Fish were cold-blooded aquatic vertebrates. Fish were often used for food. Some eel-like creatures were seen swimming in a lake on Archer IV. (ENT: "Strange New World") In the script for "Strange New World", these animals were described as "spikey, eel-like alien fish." A large tank on the Xyrillian starship had eel-like creatures swimming in a liquid within it. (ENT: "Unexpected") It is unknown what function these fish serve or what liquid they are swimming in. It can not be water, as it is revealed in the episode that the Xyrillians have trouble producing water. Indeed, the closest approximation they could devise was a small gelatinous cube. Several different species of fish were seen in large aquariums in the Cetacean Institute in Sausalito. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home) On one occasion within the Dixon Hill holoprogram, Beverly Crusher asked if Jean-Luc Picard was a fish after being told by Data that Picard was "on ice" and "being grilled" in the program. Data, as a participant in the program, was using 20th century slang for being detained by the police and interrogated. (TNG: "The Big Goodbye" ) Apart from Livingston, Captain Picard kept an aquarium of colorful tropical fish in his quarters (TNG: "The Battle" ), as did the guest quarters of Doctor Paul Stubbs, (TNG: "Evolution" ) and the quarters of Counselor Deanna Troi. (TNG: "The Survivors" ) The fish on the planet Aldea became extinct. (TNG: "When The Bough Breaks" ) Captain Picard also kept a stone plate with a fossil fish in his ready room aboard the USS Enterprise-D in 2365. (TNG: "The Dauphin" ) In 2344, Kyle and William T. Riker went on a fishing trip together. (TNG: "The Icarus Factor" ) The Ferengi Omag had a very large fish for dinner in a bar on the planet Qualor II. (TNG: "Unification I" ) A fish was among the mansaras in the habak on Dorvan V. (TNG: "Journey's End" ) A huge Cardassian fish was displayed on Deep Space 9's promenade. (DS9: "The Nagus") The official book The Making of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine features a sketch of the giant fish. Here, it is mentioned that that fish is supposed to be a "Cardassian Sushi Ad" and that "it is known simply as the Fish". When in 2369 the imaginations of the Deep Space 9 residents became reality, Julian Bashir created an illusory Jadzia Dax who compared the real Dax with a "cold fish". (DS9: "If Wishes Were Horses") Both Benjamin Sisko and his father Joseph were skilled at cooking fish. Joseph would sometimes joked to the customers of his restaurant that they should thank him for just letting him look at the fish he had prepared for them. (DS9: "Equilibrium", "Homefront") A blue fish was seen swimming past Data in the Ba'ku lake. (Star Trek: Insurrection) A holographic fish, called Spectrum, was seen in a fishbowl. (VOY: "Revulsion")
This may be a reference to the fishes in King's Quest 5, which is used to distract the bear away from the beehive, and another used to distract Manannan.
  • Fish was a heavy in the 6th squad, 4th Company, 2nd Division in the Malaz 4th Army. Described as "giant" and "shambling", he was the squad’s muscle. He received his name from Braven Tooth, the legendary Malazan Master Sergeant. A former fisherman, Fish was laconic and dense, and spoke without inflection. • A fish is any member of a paraphyletic group of organisms that consist of all gill-bearing aquatic craniate animals that lack limbs with digits. Included in this definition are the living hagfish, lampreys, and cartilaginous and bony fish, as well as various extinct related groups. Most fish are ectothermic ("cold-blooded"), allowing their body temperatures to vary as ambient temperatures change, though some of the large active swimmers like white shark and tuna can hold a higher core temperature.[1][2] Fish are abundant in most bodies of water. They can be found in nearly all aquatic environments, from high mountain streams (e.g., char and gudgeon) to the abyssal and even hadal depths of the deepest oceans (e.g., gulpers and anglerfish). With 33,100 described species, fish exhibit greater species diversity than any other group of vertebrates. Fish are an important resource for humans worldwide, especially as food. Commercial and subsistence fishers hunt fish in wild fisheries (see fishing) or farm them in ponds or in cages in the ocean (see aquaculture). They are also caught by recreational fishers, kept as pets, raised by fishkeepers, and exhibited in public aquaria. Fish have had a role in culture through the ages, serving as deities, religious symbols, and as the subjects of art, books and movies. • Fish (魚(さかな) Sakana) is a Type of Monster Card. Fish-Type monsters are used by Reginald Kastle and Ren. In the past it had very little support, but it received support in Tactical Evolution, Phantom Darkness, The Duelist Genesis, Crimson Crisis, and Generation Force. Fish monsters were released in every core set from Generation Force until Duelist Alliance. Many Fish support monsters have effects that require the presence or Tribute of another Fish to activate, or focus on manipulating advantage through banishing (dubbed Generation Fish). The first consistent strategy of a Fish Deck used to be to summon "Superancient Deepsea King Coelacanth" and use its effect to summon a combination of "Fishborg Blaster"s and "Oyster Meister"s to Synchro Summon the cards required to perform an OTK. However, following the September 2011 List, this combo is no longer playable due to "Blaster" being Banned. This strategy can be used with "Fishborg Launcher", but Launcher has restrictions to what can be Synchro Summoned. A newer strategy is to use the Deepsea King's effect to summon Level 2, 3, and 4 Fish monsters so as to overlay them into Xyz Monsters that can prove to be quite difficult to summon on their own, such as "Number 96: Dark Mist" and "Number 10: Illumiknight". The release of the "Shark" monsters and the Generation Fish provided an Xyz strategy for Fish monsters, largely focusing on Rank 3-5 monsters, while the "White" monsters finally provided Fish with their own Synchro Monsters Fish Decks met with a reasonable amount of success at YCS Charlotte, with three Fish Decks making the top 32. Prominent Fish-Type monsters include "Fortress Whale", "Superancient Deepsea King Coelacanth", "Earthbound Immortal Chacu Challhua", "Fishborg Blaster", "White Aura Whale", and "Shark Fortress". The first Xyz Monster revealed and that appeared in both the anime and manga, "Submersible Carrier Aero Shark", is Fish-Type.

  • A fish is a poikilothermic (cold-blooded)* water-dwelling vertebrate with gills. There are over 27,000 species of fish, making them the most diverse group of vertebrates. Taxonomically, fish are a paraphyletic group whose exact relationships are much debated; a common division is into the jawless fish (class Agnatha, 75 species including lampreys and hagfish), the cartilaginous fish (class Chondrichthyes, 800 species including sharks and rays), with the remainder classed as bony fish (class Osteichthyes). Fish come in different sizes, from the 14 m (45 ft) whale shark to a 7 mm (just over 1/4 of an inch) long stout infantfish. Many types of aquatic animals named "fish", such as jellyfish and cuttlefish, are not true fish. Other sea dwelling creatures, like dolphins, are actually mammals. * Certain species of fish maintain elevated body temperatures to varying degrees. The trait is believed to have evolved separately at least five different times as evidenced by differences in morphology. Endothermic teleosts (bony fishes) are all in the suborder Scombroidei and include the billfishes, tunas, and one species of "primitive" mackerel (Gasterochisma melampus). All sharks in the family Lamnidae – shortfin mako, long fin mako, white, porbeagle, and salmon shark – are known to have the capacity for endothermy, and evidence suggests the trait exists in family Alopiidae (thresher sharks). The degree of endothermy varies from the billfish, which warm only their eyes and brain, to bluefin tuna and porbeagle sharks who maintain body temperatures elevated in excess of 20 °C above ambient water temperatures. See also gigantothermy. Endothermy, though metabolically costly, is thought to provide advantages such as increased contractile force of muscles, higher rates of central nervous system processing, and higher rates of digestion.

The first fish with jaws, the acanthodians, or spiny sharks, appeared in the Late Silurian, about 410 million years ago, and became extinct before the end of the Permian, about 250 million years ago in the Permian–Triassic extinction event. Acanthodians were generally small sharklike fishes varying from toothless filter-feeders to toothed predators. They were once often classified as an order of the class Placodermi, another group of primitive fishes, but recent authorities tend to place the acanthodiaes or that both groups share a common ancestor. The placoderms, another group of jawed fishes, appeared at the beginning of the Devonian, about 395 million years ago, and became extinct at the end of the Devonian or the beginning of the Mississippian (Carboniferous), about 345 million years ago. Detailed anatomical studies of fossil remains by the Swedish scientist Erik Stensiö strongly suggest that the placoderms were closely related to sharks. Placoderms were typically small, flattened bottom-dwellers, however, many, particularly the arthrodires, were active midwater predators. Dunkleosteus was the largest and most famous of these. The upper jaw was firmly fused to the skull, but there was a hinge joint between the skull and the bony plating of the trunk region. This allowed the upper part of the head to be thrown back, and in arthrodires, this allowed them to take larger bites. The cartilaginous-skeleton sharks and rays, class Chondrichthyes, which appeared about 370 million years ago in the Middle Devonian, are generally believed to be descended from the bony-skeleton placoderms. The cartilaginous skeletons are considered to be a later development. The modern bony fishes, class Osteichthyes, appeared in the Late Silurian or Early Devonian, about 395 million years ago. The early forms were freshwater fishes, for no fossil remains of modern bony fishes have been found in marine deposits older than the Triassic, about 230 million years ago. The Osteichthyes may have arisen from the acanthodians. A subclass of the Osteichthyes, the ray-finned fishes (subclass Actinopterygii), became and have remained the dominant group of fishes throughout the world. It was not the ray-finned fishes, however, that led to the evolution of the land vertebrates. The ancestors of the land vertebrates are found among another group of bony fishes called the Choanichthyes or Sarcopterygii. Choanate fishes are characterized by internal nostrils, fleshy fins called lobe fins, and cosmoid scales. The choanate fishes appeared in the late Silurian or early Devonian, more than 390 million years ago, and possibly arose from the acanthodians. The choanate fishes include a group known as the Crossopterygii, which has one living representative, the coelacanth (Latimeria). During the Devonian Period some crossopterygian fishes of the order (or suborder) Rhipidistia crawled out of the water to become the first tetrapods. The story of vertebrate evolution started in the seas of the Cambrian period, when jawless, toothless, soft-bodied fishlike creatures wriggled through the water, sucking up microscopic food particles. Only after tough, non-decaying bone was developed (initially as a scaly outer covering and later within the body) did fossils form and become preserved in the rocks. And only then could paleontologists take up the story with any certainty. The earliest traces of bony scales are found in rocks of the Late Cambrian period, and the first recognizable vertebrate fish has been found in Australian rocks of Early Ordovician age. So, the first chapter in the vertebrate evolution starts with the ancient Arandaspis, a fish about 6in/15cm long with no jaws, no teeth and no fins other than a tail. It did, however, have gills and a stiffening rod of cartilaginous material (the notochord) that served as a backbone.

  • Fish are a recurring element in water areas in the Metroid series. The most common species of fish is present on Tallon IV in Metroid Prime, and are only named as such in the design notes for Phendrana Shorelines which identifies the creatures seen in the waters. They cannot be scanned, but do give off heat signatures when the Thermal Visor is used. They strongly resemble tadpoles and travel in small schools and are present in most locations where there is water and scatter when shot at. They are kept in tanks in Save Station Mines A and B in the Phazon Mines for unknown reasons. It is possible that they were being kept as experiments or pets by the Space Pirates. An almost identical species of fish appears in Torvus Bog in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. They behave much like Tallon's fish, and share the heat signatures. However, they more or less resemble guppies. Protozoans appear in the Impact Crater in Metroid Prime which behave exactly like the fish seen elsewhere on Tallon IV.

  • The fish is one of sixteen bludgeon types used in rumbling. On subscription oceans, this bludgeon may only be used by subscribers. Unlike most bludgeons, it cannot be purchased at shipyards. Instead, fish are acquired by being aboard a ship when it sinks. The player must stay aboard until he or she receives the message, "The ship has been sunk!" (Note that pirates receiving an injury will not receive a fish at the same time.) The fish is a popular choice among players that spend the majority of the game making sprinkle attacks. Some people have reached Legendary ranking by spamming sprinkles with a fish. This has caused many people to complain about the fish. However, the fish's sprinkle spam does poorly at against Ultimate ranked players, which is why you won't see many Ultimate players using a fish. The strike pattern includes pre-charged balls, but these pre-charged balls are considered to be at the beginning of the combo list. This means that if your opponent pops a combo that is somewhere else on the board, then the fish's pre-charged balls will NOT pop. Your opponent would need to pop one of the pre-charged balls directly if they want it to be included in a combo. Therefore, the fish's pre-charged balls don't really help your opponent very much.

  • Fish are a Rare Resource, found in oceans. They can be gathered by Fishermen and provide a basic income of 10 File:Food.jpg Food and 10 File:Wealth.jpg Wealth. They are found on all sea maps as well as some land maps. Fish are an excellent way of bringing in food, as they are plentiful and each site requires one fishing boat. Similar to farms, they can only support one gatherer, however. Still, fishing in friendly waters is a steady and efficient source of food and wealth. The one disadvantage is that, unlike farms, they can obviously not be built, limiting the amount of safe fishing sites. Fishing boats are not armed and cannot outrun the large guns of battleships or cruisers, and can be sunk in one torpedo volley, requiring that they be protected, or only be gathering fish at a secure site.
  • Fish are an important resource worldwide, especially as food. Because the term "fish" is defined negatively, and excludes the tetrapods (i.e., the amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals) which descend from within the same ancestry, it is paraphyletic, and is not considered a proper grouping in systematic biology. The traditional term pisces (also ichthyes) is considered a typological, but not a phylogenetic classification. The earliest organisms that can be classified as fish were soft-bodied chordates that first appeared during the Cambrian period. Although they lacked a true spine, they possessed notochords which allowed them to be more agile than their invertebrate counterparts. Fish would continue to evolve through the Paleozoic era, diversifying into a wide variety of forms. Many fish of the Paleozoic developed external armor that protected them from predators. The first fish with jaws appeared in the Silurian period, after which many (such as sharks) became formidable marine predators rather than just the prey of arthropods.

  • Fishing is not a sport, but a necessity for many people; fish form an important part of their diet. Characters with this skill are quite canny with a hook-and-line or net. If properly equipped, characters can catch fish from any waters, but the gamesmaster must decide how long it will take to catch the amount of fish required - this should vary from place to place or day to day. A good rule of thumb is that it takes D4 hours to catch enough fish to keep one person alive for one day. Fishermen know where to find specific sorts of fish and what habitats different fish prefer. Catching rates and probabilities are at the discretion of the gamesmaster; fishing in winter, for example, should be difficult or even impossible.
  • Fish was a blue fish that appeared in "Mung on the Rocks". His only words in the only episode he appeared in are: "Man I wouldn't want to be that guy." Oddly, he was dry land for a really long time and showed ill effects from it. What happened to him is unknown though it's possible he was eaten by Chowder after talking to him, baked for the Fish Sticks/Stones, let back into the lake or sea, or simply escaped from the kitchen but we can't be sure. Another blue fish appeared in The Apprentice Scouts when Panini showed affection to chowder whan they were stranded.Chowder used the fish as a weapon and then rubbed the fish as it were a genie lamp to save himself. The fish replied "OK 1, i'm not magic. And 2, im not a genie lamp. But lucky for you i am a carpenter". He then made a boat built with an oar & a banana cannon.
