- Ceti Alpha V is the third of Puzzle mode's seventeen planets. It becomes available when any four of Tau Heximus' five puzzles have been solved. The puzzles of Ceti Alpha V introduce Hypercubes, and a brief tutorial regarding this type of Special Gem is given upon accessing the planet for the first time. All the puzzles are arranged in various formations and patterns. Every puzzle except the first contains at least one Hypercube, with certain puzzles having more than others do. Completing any four of Ceti Alpha V's five puzzles unlocks access to Seraph III, the next planet in Puzzle mode.

All plant vegetation was extinguished due to a combination of acid rain and severe drought brought on by a complete disruption of the planet's water cycle. Animal vegetation naturally followed the plant life into extinction. Planet rotation increased dramatically, causing wind speeds of up to an average of 120 to 170 mph. Months long sandstorms now envelope as much as 73% of the planet's surface. Visibility during a sandstorm is less than 1 ft. Due to an ever increasing amount of C02 being continuously released, the Oxygen content of the atmosphere is steadily declining. It is now slightly below 10%, whereas prior to the disaster, the content of atmospheric gases was recorded at the following levels: 35% Oxygen, 63% Nitrogen, 1.5% Argon and 0.5% Carbon Dioxide. Due to these now extremely harsh, planet wide surface conditions, it is nolonger possible to exist on the surface without an environmental support suit. Ceti Alpha 5's sole remaining life-form, the Ceti Eel, has survived mainly because it's habitat is naturally beneath the surface and consists of multitudinous tunnels dug deep into the ground. At the present time It is not yet known what sustains the eels for with such a complete absence of animal and plant vegetation to be used as a food source, as well as desert like temperatures and lack of water, such life should be completely impossible, although recent theories point to possible ingestation of the soil for sustenance and hydration. Due to the constantly increasing temperatures, and the ever declining Oxygen content of the atmosphere, it is certain that eventually even the Ceti Eel will fall victim to the same fate as all the other lifeforms indigenous to Ceti Alpha 5 have. Crawling into the ear canal and burrowing deep inside the brain of the sleeping host, the immature offspring slowly grow, resulting in a progressive and fatal syndrome with symptoms including pain, paralysis and eventuall death for the host organism. It supported a variety of plant and animal life, including various mammillian and reptiallian species. Marine life in the oceans was plentiful. Most of its life-forms were remarkably similar to their counterparts on Earth. Birds of various sizes and colors filled the skies. Wild Ceti-buffalo roamed the plains. There was also a large variety of fauna comprising seemingly endless acres of wild, untamed forest. The environment was clean and untouched by pollution caused by industrial civilizations. At the time of its colonization in 2267, by KHAN NOONIEN SINGH and his followers, there were no signs of intelligent life on Ceti Alpha 5. Upon arrival a complete survey scan of the planet was conducted by the federation starship Enterprise, confirming more than adequate conditions to support life. 6 months later, the planet fell into ruin by an unforeseen cosmological event: The destruction of Ceti Alpha 6, forever changing its landscape from a resemblance of paradise to a reality of Hell.

An Bord befindet sich Khan Noonien Singh und eine Gruppe Augments im Kälteschlaf und diese werden von der Crew der Enterprise erweckt. Khan versucht darauf die Kontrolle der Enterprise an sich zu reißen, doch er scheitert. Captain James T. Kirk überlegt was er nun mit Khan machen soll, da er ein Umerziehungslager für die Augments als sinnlos betrachtet. Kirk spricht Khan frei und gewährt ihn und seine Gruppe sich auf den Planeten City Alpha V anzusiedeln. Obwohl es eine raue Welt ist, nimmt Khan diese Herausforderung dankbar an, da er so über seinen eigenen Planeten herrschen kann. Zusammen mit dem ehemaligen Crewmitglied Marla McGivers und den Augements siedelt Khan auf den Planeten an. Die Botany Bay wird für die Augements als Wohneinheit auf den Planeten umgebaut. Nach diesen Ereignis gibt Spock an, dass er gern sehen würde wie sich diese Menschen im lauf der Jahrzehnte entwickeln werden. Doch Kirk erwidert, dass sie so viel Zeit nicht haben werden. Die Crew der Reliant untersucht den unbewohnten Planeten, welche sie für Ceti Alpha VI halten, und da es ungewöhnliche Werte auf der Oberfläche gibt, beamen Captain Clark Terrell und Commander Pavel Chekov auf die Oberfläche. Doch beide finden nur eine Sandwüste vor. Bei ihren Erkundungen finden beide ein Schiffswrack und Chekov muss zu seinem Entsetzen erkennen, dass es sich um die Botany Bay handelt. Beide versuchen zu fliehen, doch Khan kann beide mit Hilfe seiner Augemnts gefangen nehmen. Er macht den beiden klar, das sie sich auf Ceti Alpha V befinden und nun seine Gefangenen sind. Mit Hilfe der Larven des Ceti-Aals macht Khan beide gefügig. Darauf gelangt Khan und seine Gefolgschaft auf die Reliant und übernimmt die Kontrolle über das Schiff. Khan setzt die Crew der Reliant auf den Planeten aus und plant nun seine Rache gegen Kirk. Doch Kirk kann Khan besiegen und dabei wird die Reliant im Mutara-Nebel vernichtet. Nach der Schlacht holt Kirk die Crew der Reliant von Ceti Alpha V ab. (Star Trek II: Der Zorn des Khan)
