Fighters seek them out for their attention to detail and their ability to recall daring exploits in vivid imagery. And we mages tolerate them for their charismatic skills of diplomacy, which we so often lack from too much time spent in solitary pursuits. I have recently heard a saying that best sums up all that is a bard: A bard's value to society is measured in how well history is retold.
  • Minstrels with bright songs and inspiring tales might relieve our bleak existence, and our Colony is worthy of a new tale or two. Bards considering the journey to Avatar Isle must be prepared to perform deeds of valor, not just chronicle them! Many bards are greatly skilled with sling and crossbow, not to mention the arcane arts - these are talents always needed here.
  • The Bards of Britain entertain the people with their ballads and tales of heroic deeds. Bards not only chronicle the deeds of valor, but perform them as well. The weapon of choice for a Bard is the sling, but they may use a crossbow at times. All armour save that of Leather is shunned by these minstrels, for they find metal harsh and too noisy for their sensitive ears. The Bard also dabbles in magic and makes a fine companion on a long journey.

Though not as physically imposing as the fighter, the bard is usually more dexterous and agile, being both quick of mind and of foot.   • Often an accomplished archer, the bard is also acquainted with the ways of magic, making him a most versatile gladiator on the field of battle. He often chooses to apply his combative skills from the rear of the melee where he can let his arrows and fiery magic missiles fly toward beleaguered targets in the front. Whether in the heat of battle or in the quagmire of a wizard's mischievous riddle, the well-rounded bard is an indispensable ally in the adventurer's quest.

  • The Bard is the heart of any adventuring party, capable of motivating even the most disheartened companion. They specialise in using instruments to play songs with a magical aura that can range from benefiting their own parties strength and stamina, to causing damage to their surrounding enemies. Bards have the greatest spell range of any of the arcane professions and are unrivalled in their flexibility and ability to fit into almost any situation. In a pinch they can act as a healer and even regenerate their parties mana but most commonly use their songs to slow their opponents attacks and speed up their own. Unfortunately this great flexibility does have a down side, Bards are unable to compete on an equal level with any profession that specialises in an area their songs cover. Due to their wide range of abilities and magical songs Bards are quite capable of adventuring alone but are for more effective in a party. Almost all of a Bard's songs have a generous area of effect, making them more efficient the greater number of members in the group. One of a Bards great abilities is being able to switch songs quickly and mix (known as 'twisting') their effects together; they are the only class capable of casting every spell in their repertoire almost instantly and using more than one spell in this way. The Bards most famous song is known as 'Selos', it grants the fastest movement rate of any spell or effect in the game and when used to full strength enables them to outrun even the fastest horses on Norrath. This kind of speed allows a Bard to 'kite', staying ahead of the pursuing creature and using another song to harm it as it follows. It can take a considerable amount of time for a Bard to finish a battle in this way but unlike many other classes they are able to fight multiple enemies at the same time. At high levels kiting is the only effective way for a Bard to gain combat experience alone and requires a great deal of space and concentration to perform.   • Bards are neutral NPCs found in towns that will randomly play music for tips or rocks (the second mostly seen during early play) from the surrounding NPCs. They are guaranteed to spawn with a musical instrument of some sort, usually generic but occasionally of varied quality and material. On the other hand, a Bard could sacrifice stopping power for a good weapon with life steal, and it would be near impossible to end her reign, unless stunlock is involved. Another benefit is that when a Bard dual wields, she possesses the same ability to attack enemies adjacent to her target that the Monk has with his staff. This, when combined with potent equipment, allows the Bard to carve a path of destruction with relative ease, much in the same way that the Barbarian would with his trusty axe. A fatal flaw in this character's design was that she had the melee attack speed of the Rogue. Rogues were never intended to be melee attackers, so they were given a slower melee attack speed than the warrior. The only saving grace of the bard's melee ability is her high dexterity; having a higher degree of dexterity, as well as being able to equip a second weapon for extra to-hit makes the bard more suited for Civerb's Cudgel than the Warrior or Barbarian, who firstly, needed to get the extra To-Hit from jewelry when wielding it, and secondly, had to make the hits count, as they swung at their normal attacking speed, robbing them of being able to stunlock some monsters. By hitting the enemy more frequently, she has the potential to stun lock her enemy.   • The music-loving, fast-running bard is one of the most difficult-to-categorize classes in the game, due to its wide range of abilities and unique coding. The premise is simple enough: bards are a hybrid class who sing Songs to help allies or hinder foes, while also (usually) fighting in melee. Bard songs are substantially different from Green Magic and Red Magic in a number of ways and contain many unique effects that are not available to the status effect-focused mage classes. * Bard songs generate an 'aura' of effect around the bard, affecting anyone within it. * The 'Aura' is constantly present while the bard is playing his or her song, which means the status effects from it cannot be dispelled, as they will instantly take effect again. * A bard can only play one song at a given time, hence only one buff or debuff will have this Aura effect at one time per Bard. * Many songs have lasting effects that will remain _after_ the bard stopped playing that specific song and will slowly wear off. This way, it is possible for a bard to place multiple effects simultaneously, but only one of these will have the aforementioned Aura effect at a given time, per bard. * Bards have a high Lore stat. * While normally not capable of equipping certain weapons, the Bard can study and impersonate characters from heroic myths to imitate their fighting style, becoming able to wield weapons and armor appropriate of that class. This effect can be extended to allies as well, albeit in a limited form. * Creatures that are incapable of hearing, or have the Alien Mindset trait, will not be affected by the bard's songs. * Some advanced songs are so complex that they require two or even more bards to take part in playing them. Being a form of 'Combination Attack', different simpler songs played by individual bards may combine into complex ones when their Auras overlap.
