The Jedi were the guardians of peace and justice in the New Republic as the Old Jedi Order were before them, and returned to become the msot famous of the various groups that relied on the Force for their power. Led by a series of Jedi Councils, the order grew less than the numbers of half the old Jedi had. The Jedi faced much conflic with Dark Jedi but their number one threat was by the Sith. Through the begining of the Order, the Jedi questioned the return of the Sith after Palpatine's demise as well as Darth Vader's. It was slow yet fast in developing having 500 members after only existing for 3 years. Members of the order were involved in many of the key conflicts in the galaxy, including the Nagai-Tof War, Operation Shadow Hand, the Black Fleet Crisis, the First Corellian Insurrection, the Yuuzhan Vong War, the Dark Nest Crisis, the Swarm War, the Second Corellian Insurrection, the Chiss War and the Force War. The current Grand Master of the Jedi Order is Shadow Eclipse. The Jedi are currently engaged in a war with the Grey Jedi called the New Jedi Civil War.

Later after the Empires fall and the rise of the New Republic the New Jedi Order was formed by Luke Skywalker.
