After the death of his stepfather, he quarrelled with his two brothers Rhadamanthus and Sarpedon over the kingship and eventually banished both of them. He married Pasiphae, daughter of the Sun and had four sons with her, Catreus, Deucalion, Glaucus and Androgeus as well as four daughters, Acalle, Xenodice, Ariadne and Phaedra. He asked Poseidon to send him a bull so that he could sacrifice it to concecrate his kingship. Poseidon granted his prayer but Minos kept the bull and sacrificed another one instead. Poseidon then made the bull wild and Pasiphae fell in love with it. She had Daedalus construct a hollow wooden cow on wheels, then approached the bull inside it and mated with it, giving birth to the Minotaur. Minos ordered Daedalus to construct a labyrinth and imprisoned the Minotaur inside it. When his son Androgeus was killed in Athens, Minos launched an attack against the city with his fleet and first began to besiege Megara. It had been prophesied that Nisus, the King of Megara would die when a purple lock was pulled from his hair. His daughter Scylla fell in love with Minos and brought the lock to him, allowing him to conquer Megara. Disgusted by this betrayal, Minos had Scylla drowned. As the war continued, he prayed Zeus to help him against the Athenians and the god sent a famine and a pestilence in Athens. The Athenians asked the oracle what they should do and received the answer that they should grant any satisfaction Minos would demand. He compelled them to send seven youths and seven girls every nine years to be fed to the Minotaur. This continued until Theseus killed the Minotaur with the help of Ariadne and Daedalus. Minos punished Daedalus by shutting him inside the labyrinth but he managed to escape to Camicus in Sicily by constructing wings for himself. Minos went to seek for him in Sicily. He carried a hollow shell with him and promised a great reward for anyone who could pass a thread through it. He finally came to the court of Cocalus where Daedalus was hiding. Cocalus gave the shell to Daedalus and he managed to pass the thread by tying it to an ant. Minos realized that he was hiding Daedalus and ordered Cocalus to surrender him. Cocalus agreed to do so but first invited him to have a bath. The daughters of Cocalus then killed Minos by pouring boiling water into his bath.

Mientras Minos abrazaba el cadáver de su hijo apareció una serpiente, a la que Poliido mató con la espada de Minos. Apareció entonces otra serpiente que, al ver a la primera muerta, se marchó y volvió con una hierba con la que la resucitó. Siguiendo este ejemplo, Poliido usó la misma hierba para resucitar a Glauco. Minos rehusó permitir a Poliido abandonar Creta hasta hubiese enseñado a Glauco todo lo que sabía. Poliido así lo hizo, pero entonces, en el último segundo antes de marcharse, pidió a Glauco que le escupiese en la boca. Glauco así lo hizo, devolviendo a Poliido todo lo que le había enseñado. El rey Minos prometió a Poseidón que sacrificaría a lo primero que saliera del mar. Poseidón hizo que salga un toro del mar; pero Minos lo encontró tan hermoso que lo incorporó a sus rebaños y el dios, enfurecido, hizo que la reina Pasifae, esposa del rey Minos, se enamorara del animal. Dédalo construyó entonces un complicado Laberinto en el que Minos encerró al Minotauro. Para asegurarse de que nadie conociera nunca el secreto del Laberinto, Minos encarceló a Dédalo y a su hijo, Ícaro, en una torre. Dédalo e Ícaro huyeron usando unas alas que Dédalo inventó, pero las de Ícaro se derritieron porque voló demasiado cerca del sol. Ícaro cayó Androgeo, hijo de Minos, había ganado los juegos panatenienses, momento de gran gloria que aprovechó Egeo, rey de Atenas, para retarle a luchar contra el toro de Maratón, que estaba asolando esa parte del Ática. La terrible bestia acabó con la vida del príncipe, o según otra versión, éste murió a manos de los otros competidores de los juegos, celosos de su victoria. El rey Minos utilizó la excusa de la muerte de su hijo para lanzar su poderosa flota contra las costas de Grecia, conquistando Megara y condenando con el aislamiento a Atenas, que sufrió el hambre y las epidemias. Los atenienses consultaron al oráculo y éste les aconsejó que aceptaran lo que les propusiera Minos si querían acabar con la guerra. Así, aceptaron el humillante tributo que les impuso el rey de Creta para firmar la paz: cada año debían enviar siete jóvenes y siete doncellas (que se corresponde directamente con el obsesivo registro de las alineaciones lunares por parte de los minoicos: una luna llena cae sobre los equinoccios una vez cada ocho años) para que fueran devorados por el Minotauro. El tributo se suspendería si alguno de ellos lograba escapar del Laberinto. Para librar a su ciudad de esta carga, Teseo, hijo único de Egeo, parte a Creta. Una vez allí, se enamora de él Ariadna, la hija de Minos, que le ofrece su ayuda: una espada mágica con la que vencer al monstruo y un ovillo con el que guiarse para salir del laberinto. Siguiendo esta estrategia, Teseo acaba con el tributo impuesto por Minos. Minos también tomó parte en la historia del rey Niso. Niso era rey de Megara, e invencible siempre que conservase un mechón de pelo rojo, oculto en su cabellera blanca. Minos atacó Megara pero Niso sabía que no podía ser derrotado porque seguía teniendo su mechón de pelo rojo. Su hija, Escila, se enamoró de Minos y demostró su amor cortando el mechón de pelo rojo de la cabeza de su padre. Niso murió y Megara cayó ante Creta. Minos mató a Escila por haber desobedecido a su padre. Escila fue transformada en un ave marina, perseguida sin descanso por su padre, que era un águila marina. Minos buscó a Dédalo de ciudad en ciudad, proponiendo un acertijo: ofrecía una caracola espiral y pedía que fuese enhebrada completamente. Cuando llegó a Camico en Sicilia, el rey Cócalo, sabiendo que Dédalo sería capaz de resolver el acertijo, buscó al anciano. Éste ató un hilo a una hormiga que recorrió todo el interior de la concha, enhebrándola completamente. Minos supo entonces que Dédalo estaba en la corte del rey Cócalo y exigió que le fuese entregado. Cócalo logró convencerlo de que tomase primero un baño, y sus hijas le mataron entonces quemándolo con agua hirviendo. Tras su muerte, Minos se convirtió en juez de los muertos en el Hades junto con Éaco y Radamantis. Radamantis juzgaba las almas de los Orientales, Éaco la de los Occidentales y Minos tenía el voto decisivo.

Der Planet hat auf der Oberfläche ein gemäßtigtes bis subtropisches Klima und hat eine reichhaltige Vegetation. Auf dem Planeten gibt es auch einige Höhlen. Minos ist die Heimatwelt der Minosianer. Die Bewohner des Planeten Minos sind seit den Erselrope-Kriegen als Waffenhändler bekannt. Sie bauen und konstruierten technisch hochentwickelte Waffensysteme für beide Seiten des Konflikts auf der Oberfläche des Planeten. Die Minosianer entwickeln ungefähr in diesem Zeitraum das hoch entwickelte Waffensystem Echo Papa 607, das eigenständig Gegner aufspürt und vernichtet. Das Waffensystem ist lernfähig und entwickelt sich immer weiter. Aber die Minosianer verlieren die Kontrolle über das Waffensystem und werden schließlich von ihrer eigenen Erfindung ausgelöscht. Nach dem Aussterben der Minosianer bleibt das Waffensystem Echo Papa 607 weiter aktiv. Der Planet beginnt im Lauf der Zeit zu verwildern. Auf der Oberfläche gibt es nur noch Vegetation und einiges an tierischen Lebens. 2364 hat die USS Drake den Auftrag, das Verschwinden aller intelligenter Lebensformen auf dem Planeten Minos zu untersuchen. Doch auch die Drake wird von dem Echo Papa 607 angegriffen und vernichtet. Kurz darauf bekommt die USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D) den Auftrag nach der vermissten Drake zu suchen. Bei ihren Scans findet die Crew keine Spur von intelligenten Leben auf der Oberfläche. Ein Außenteam beamt auf die Oberfläche und wird vom Echo Papa 607 angegriffen. Auch die Enterprise wird vom Echo Papa 607 angegriffen. Captain Jean-Luc Picard findet auf der Oberfläche heraus, dass die Minosianer durch das Echo Papa 607 ausgelöscht wurden sind und von ihnen nichts mehr übrig bleibt als ein ein interaktives, holografisches Programm, das als Waffenverkäufer dient. Picard kann mit diesem Programm verhandeln und somit sein Außenteam auf der Oberfläche vor dem Echo Papa 607 retten. In der Zwischenzeit gelingt es Geordi La Forge mit der Kampfsektion der Enterprise eine Echo Papa 607 Drohne in der Atmosphäre des Planeten zu vernichten. Kurz darauf verlässt das Außenteam den Planeten. (TNG: )
