  • The Barracks is a military building available fairly early on in most Civilization games.
  • To build the barracks to level 10, you must have 9 empty cells forming a square. Empty means free of trees, water or rocks. Cells can be grass or sand.
  • The Barracks is the building in which infantry troops are created. Only Legionnaires (Roman), Maceman/Clubswingers (Teutons) and Phalanx (Gauls) can be trained automatically in the Barracks without researching, whereas Praetorians and Imperians (Roman), Spearmen, Axemen, and Scouts (Teutons), and Swordsmen (Gauls) do require to be researched first. Note: Only the Teuton scouts are infantry based. Rest two tribes have cavalry scouts. If you are a teuton then remeber to make scouts early in the game and keep assesing your surroundings. Each upgrade to the Barracks decreases troop build time.
  • The Barracks is a sublevel of Home Castle, and the true first level/area of the game.
  • "Warfare has been a recurring phenomenon throughout the history of mankind, and it continues to plague the world today. Although war is not a desirable situation, it is important that even the most peaceful of societies be prepared for the possibility of war. When warring nations are closely matched in technology and manpower, the army with the best training usually wins battles. Military schools and academies exist all over the world, established for the purpose of training military personnel in the latest methods, tactics, and technology. Men and women who graduate from such facilities possess higher than average command and military and technological skills, making them more effective in combat situations."
  • The Barracks was a limited time premium decoration released on September 4, 2014 during the Clash of Clones 2014 Event. This decoration was not released in the initial event but was still part of the event items.
  • The Barracks is a recurring theme since Metal Slug 2, it is always played in the 'Soldier Select' screen. It does always get a new remix/remake in every installments of the series. It is called 'Choose a Person' in Metal Slug 4, 'Sortie!' in Metal Slug 5, and 'Last Resort' in Metal Slug 6.
  • The Barracks is the earilest and cheapest defense available to a Base, the only requirement being Level 1 Laser technology. It provides very little defense, the first level only having the Power/Armour of ten Fighters without any Technology. Laser turrets, by comparison, require the same tech barracks, cost twice as much (10 credits vs 5 credits), but provide double the firepower. It is frowned upon to ever use this building in any serious defense, and as such has found very little use.
  • The Barracks gives you Infantry reinforcements when captured, and gives you more when you lose the Infantry on the battlefield after a set amount of time. Like all other Facilities, if a player owns more than one Barracks, the time needed to produce Infantry is divided by the number owned. In Battalion Wars 2, they appear in "Line in the Sand", "Enemies Undone", and "Purge", where they are already controlled by the enemy. They also appear in each skirmish mission and cannot be captured during those missions.
  • Like the command center, the barracks is a mobile structure able to traverse great distances in order to reach new hot-zones or deployment centers. Under the Terran Confederacy, barracks were standard structures at most bases and possessed a universal design. The Terran Dominion consider the bunkers to be a safe, comfortable staging point for marines on the field, a statement that many marines vehemently disagree with. By the Second Great War, Remedius Medical Systems had developed a medpack storage facility that could be placed within a barracks without the need for a tech lab.

In the Barracks you can recruit infantry, The higher its level, the faster the recruitment of infantry will be finished. The requirements are level 3 headquarters. The maximum level of the Barracks is 25. Here you can recruit spear fighters, swordsmen, axemen, and archers. See Buildings for other information.
  • The Barracks are introduced by an Orc Warlord as a means of grouping creatures. Barracks enable players to group creatures and then take control of one to guide them around dungeons. To do this, you have to pick up all the creatures you want in your group and drop them onto a Barracks room. The creatures stay in the room until you Possess one of them, after which you act as the group’s leader and they follow you wherever you go.
  • The Barracks were a secure residential compound on the Island, comprising houses and other surface buildings with electricity and water service, plus an unknown number of underground facilities. Originally constructed by the DHARMA Initiative, the Others took control of them after the Purge, using the compound as their home and base of operations on the Island. The Barracks were located directly north of the Pearl, as shown on Ben's radio tower map and Kate's map.
  • Barracks (which is the singular and plural form of the word), a place where troops are trained, can be found all over Azeroth, in different styles. The Champions' Hall, Command Center, and SI:7 in Old Town all seem to be in the style of the Alliance barracks of the Second War. For some reason, the Keep design used in Warcraft III was combined with the barracks design of Warcraft III to create the type used in World of Warcraft (it is unknown if this is a lore or gameplay detail). The result is that the same model is used for both the Keep and the Alliance barracks. Westbrook Garrison in Elwynn Forest is a good example of Alliance barracks.
  • A Barracks is a type of Town Building. It can be constructed in any town belonging to any race, and has no prerequisites. Its base construction cost is File:Icon Production.png . The Barracks serves primarily as a stepping-stone towards unlocking a wide variety of Normal Units for construction. Other buildings, mainly the Smithy and Sawmill, are also required in order to make any of these units available. Together with the Smithy, a Barracks also unlocks construction of the next-tier unit production center: the Armory.
  • Early barracks were multi-storey blocks often grouped in a quadrangle around a courtyard or parade ground. A good example is Ravensdowne Barracks Berwick-upon-Tweed, among the first in England to be purpose-built and begun in 1717 to the design of the distinguished architect Nicholas Hawksmoor. During the 18th century the increasing sophistication of military life lead to separate housing for different ranks (officers had always had larger rooms) and married quarters, and the provision of specialized buildings such as dining rooms and cook houses, bath houses, mess rooms, schools, hospitals, armouries, gymnasia, riding schools and stables. The pavilion plan concept of hospital design was influential in barrack planning after the Crimean War.
  • The Barracks is a room shared by all playable units that can be accessed from the preparations screen while out of battle. At first, the room is empty, but as more characters are recruited, more furniture and items are added to the room. Characters may be found in the wandering in room if there is a mini-event inside involving them. A maximum of 5 mini-event may be stored at a time and new events are added at regular time intervals. There are numerous features to the Barracks:
  • Immediately available from the Barracks are Heavy Infantry, Light Infantry, Foot Archers and Scouts in the form of Hoplites, Slingers, Bowmen and Scout, respectively; or, if any, their Unique Unit equivalents. Upon researching further military technologies and advancing through the ages, players will unlock upgrades in the Barracks for each of these unit types. After upgrading, all of the recruited and future units of the type change in appearance and become more powerful, and may raise in price and even become a new type, depending of the Age. For instance, Light Infantry and Foot Archers eventually become Gunpowder Infantry, and Modern Infantry after that, and other new types of Infantry will also become avaliable, such as Machine Guns and Flamethrowers.
  • A Barracks is a military production facility that focuses on training infantry units. It is the first military building available to the player upon researching 1 level of Military technology. Immediately available from the barracks, players can create light infantry, which are normally swordsmen; archers; and heavy infantry, which are normally armoured spearmen. File:Barracks.png

The pavilion plan concept of hospital design was influential in barrack planning after the Crimean War. The first large-scale training camps were built in France and Germany during the early 18th century. The British army built Aldershot camp from 1854. By the First World War, infantry, artillery and cavalry regiments had separate barracks. The first naval barracks were hulks, old wooden sailing vessels, but these insanitary lodgings were replaced with large naval barracks at the major dockyard towns of Europe and the United States, usually with hammocks instead of beds. These were inadequate for the enormous armies mobilised after 1914. Hut camps were developed using variations of the eponymous Nissen hut, made from timber or corrugated iron.

The result is that the same model is used for both the Keep and the Alliance barracks. Westbrook Garrison in Elwynn Forest is a good example of Alliance barracks. Similarly, the Horde Stronghold design was combined with the Horde barracks of Warcraft III (which changed little since the second war) to create the structure used in World of Warcraft. Though, the same model is not used for both structure types; the old barracks design went to the Stronghold (minus the rear fifth tower for some reason), and a new, more open design (based on the style from Warcraft III) was created for the Horde barracks. Some of the buildings that use the "Stronghold" model are called barracks. it is unknown why the second-level 'town halls' and barracks of both races were merged. Razor Hill Barracks is a good example of Horde barracks.

File:Barracks.png Military technology research at your Library will reduce the cost of a unit, as well as unlock the ability to upgrade a unit. Upgrading a unit will normally result in a unit with a slightly higher cost, but much better statistics - ie, a spearman is cheaper but inferior in combat prowess when compared to a pikeman, or a pike guardsman.pt:caserma

The Barracks has no further effects of its own. It also requires no Upkeep Costs of any kind. If pressed for Gold, a Barracks can be sold back for File:Icon Gold.png , but only if no other existing Town Buildings in the same town have the Barracks as a prerequisite. If such buildings exist, they must be sold first before selling the Barracks.

Some creatures do not group together. Creatures that dislike each other by default, such as Spiders and Flies, refuse to group with each other. Horned Reapers refuse to group with anyone at all. Once you leave the creature (by pressing the right mouse button), the group breaks up and each creature returns to its normal job. The Barracks are notoriously unreliable, so don't be disheartened if you cannot get it to work. Possessing the highest level creature in the group may help. Some keepers build a barracks only to attract orcs.
  • The Azadi Barracks are the second major feature of Tower Square besides the Tower. As the Barracks are not yet complete the Azadi army camps in tents spread over the Square. It appears to already be in at least partial use, however, as one of the soldiers invites April back to spend the night there with him and some friends. Construction of the Barracks and the Tower continues apace simultaneously, and the two are to be connected by a bridge leading from the balcony outside the Emissary's office to a minaret on the Barracks. Indeed, the scaffolding under this bridge is how April gains access to the balcony in order to eavesdrop on the conversation between the Emissary and the Prophet. The Barracks are fairly typical of the Islamo-Persian architecture exhibited by the Azadi, although it is made of brown stone rather than the more dominant white. Its inspiration appears to be the real-world Hagia Sophia, which is itself a Byzantine basilica later converted into a mosque after the fall of Constantinople in 1453: the main change being the addition of four minarets.
There are numerous features to the Barracks: * Triggering mini-events (see below) * Checking characters' detailed profiles * Adjusting the camera to survey the room The touch screen will show one of the members of the army, who will say something to the Avatar depending on the time of day. If the Avatar is married, that person will appear much more often and their touch screen phrases changes slightly. Also, if the Avatar has another child besides Morgan, their child's quote will be slightly different as well. If it is a character's birthday, the touch screen will display that character's smiling portrait and will say "today is character's birthday" until all of the Birthday mini events are viewed. If it is the Avatar's birthday, the characters on the bottom screen will wish them a Happy Birthday with their happy face sprites. Birthday quotes may change depending on the Avatar's status with them. If a character has fallen in battle, their profile will state where they died in red text (e.g. "Died: The Farfort") and show their portrait in gray. If the character is plot important, it instead states that they have retired with their portrait in regular color.

The Others abandoned the Barracks in 2004 in anticipation of the arrival of the mercenary team sent by Charles Widmore. When the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 split into two groups, Locke's group temporarily resided in the Barracks. Since then, the Barracks had been abandoned. The Barracks were located directly north of the Pearl, as shown on Ben's radio tower map and Kate's map.
